We performed a comparison between Azure Firewall and Fortinet FortiOS based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."FortiGate's web and URL filtering are unlike any other firewall I've used. The functionality of URL filtering in those solutions is problematic because everything is encrypted, and firewalls can't break that encryption protocol. Fortinet has an SSL proxy, so the encryption is done before the packet ever leaves the FortiGate. The URL filter is definitely one of the most helpful features."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate are the ability to work in proxy mode, which other solutions, such as Palo Alto cannot. There are some features that are better that come at no extra license or subscriptions cost, such as basic SD-WAN. The DLT is useful, other solutions have the same feature too, such as Palo Alto."
"The features that we have found most valuable are the SSL VPN and the User Portal."
"We are using the FortiGate 100D series. VPN, firewall, anti-malware, OTM, and intrusion prevention are useful features."
"Their reliability and their policy of pre-shipping replacements when a unit has failed."
"Initial setup is straightforward. There weren't too many issues with setting it up. It takes one hour or so."
"The Intrusion Prevention System and the web filtering are both working well."
"FortiGate is on the cheaper end, and it offers good value."
"Among the most valuable features are the DDoS protection that protects your virtual machines, the threat intelligence, and traffic filtering."
"We use the solution for application and server deployment."
"It's auto-scalable, which is a great feature."
"I like its order management feature. It doesn't have the kind of threat intelligence that Palo Alto has, but the order management makes it much simpler to know the difference."
"The initial setup is straightforward; Azure Firewall does not have a complex implementation process. It is very simple; you just need to enable the service within Azure. It does not require any maintenance because it is managed by Microsoft, that is, it is a fully managed service."
"The solution should be capable of self-scaling, which is one of the features we like about it."
"Performance and stability are the key features of this product."
"One of the best features is that it natively integrates with Azure Services and tools. When you have a third-party offering, that is not the case. But Azure Firewall provides a comprehensive and seamless security solution for your Azure resources."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiOS are the SD-WAN, SSL inspection, and IDS/IPS functions."
"It's easy to use."
"The interface is good."
"The initial setup is easy. It's the easiest firewall installation process on the market. I work with three or four other products and this one is the easiest."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiOS are user-friendliness, ease of use, and threat prevention."
"Firewall and overall management are valuable features."
"FortiGate as a product is very easy to configure."
"All of the features in this solution are effective and efficient."
"The visibility of the network can be better. The GUI can be improved for better visibility of the network flow. Other solutions have better GUI in terms of network visibility."
"The process of configuring firewall rules appears excessively complex."
"Its price could be better."
"The debugging and troubleshooting has room for improvement."
"The solution's framework needs to be frequently updated in order to have a stable solution."
"Its reporting and pricing need improvement."
"MTBF: Hardware failure is more common when compared to SonicWall or Cisco ASA."
"The feature which gives us a lot of pain is ASIC architecture."
"They can improve the pricing of Azure Firewall."
"This solution is not mature when it comes to handling perimeter traffic like internet browsing."
"Currently, it only supports IP addresses, so you have to be specific about the IPs that are in your environment."
"The threat intelligence part could be better. I don't see why our customers have to get an additional solution with Azure Firewall. It would be great if they made it on par with Palo Alto."
"For larger enterprises, they need to adjust the scalability."
"The solution lacks artificial intelligence and machine learning. It might be in the roadmap. However, currently, it's not available."
"The interface could be improved, it's not very user friendly."
"We find it's different implementing it region-to-region. It might help if it was universal across all regions."
"There are some issues with the performance. We also had some issues while updating the firmware."
"The solution could improve by making the dashboard easier to use."
"The technical support is good. However, during the holidays they can get a little slow to respond."
"The central management can improve in Fortinet FortiOS. It is sometimes difficult to manage all the devices."
"FortiOS's bandwidth and interface could be improved."
"A switch should be introduced."
"It would be better if AWS instances were available. If I want to upgrade from T2.small to T2.medium, it should be available rather than having a big instance and paying a lot of money for that. The issue is that we had deployed in AWS Cloud, and we were using a very small instance. Recently we wanted to move in-house and deploy it on the big instance because it was struggling with the RAM. If we use T2.small, we cannot upgrade it to the T2.medium. It has predefined instances in the marketplace with a lot of cost differences. If I can increase the RAM, I have to choose the T3.large instance. If I'm paying $270 for the small instance, I have to pay more than double the cost for T3.large. It is about $850, and this is not good. So, it would be better if it was cheaper. I think both AWS and Fortinet should think about that. They should provide it on lower instances as well. If I want to upgrade it from T2.small to T2.medium, it should be available, but it's a problem."
"The GUI could be improved to make it more usable, easier to administer, and easier to configure."
