Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Fortinet FortiGate's ease of management is the most valuable feature.""Customers want to load balance more than eight lines or six internet lines. FortiGate is the only solution that can accomplish this.""Their reliability and their policy of pre-shipping replacements when a unit has failed.""Using this product makes the VPN seamless and almost invisible to me in the sense that I don't have to think about it.""FortiGate's web and URL filtering are unlike any other firewall I've used. The functionality of URL filtering in those solutions is problematic because everything is encrypted, and firewalls can't break that encryption protocol. Fortinet has an SSL proxy, so the encryption is done before the packet ever leaves the FortiGate. The URL filter is definitely one of the most helpful features.""Virtual Domains (VDOMs) are a feature that we found valuable.""FortiGate firewalls are easy to manage through a user-friendly web interface. They also have advanced features like DDoS and DLP. However, I wouldn't recommend enabling all of these features on one device because it can cause performance issues.""The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate are the ability to work in proxy mode, which other solutions, such as Palo Alto cannot. There are some features that are better that come at no extra license or subscriptions cost, such as basic SD-WAN. The DLT is useful, other solutions have the same feature too, such as Palo Alto."

"Newer versions are much more stable.""What gives me the most value is undoubtedly the security that the anti-bot and anti-virus blades provide.""I came across the Check Point Infinity AI feature in one of the Check Point webinars, which I believe is unique and will be very useful in the future.""Only allows authorized connections and prevents vulnerabilities in a network.""Its most significant strength lies in its superior threat detection engines.""The online documentation is complete and easy to read and understand.""The solution is easy to administer thanks to its dashboards. The monitoring is really useful.""The best feature is the ability to increase the capacity of the solution by exactly what you add, not losing anything for High Availability."

"The setup is quite easy.""Huawei support is excellent. I rate it 10 out of 10.""The solution's implementation is pretty easy.""We make use of the new data center, specifically the containerized data center which is built and reviewed by Huawei, including all the device's infrastructure.""I had no difficulty using the Huawei NGFW.""The most useful feature is the performance of the firewalls and networking operations.""Huawei was able to assist us in the installation of their product. The installation was very fast.""It enables us to configure different policies and restrictions for specific users within the same subnet."

Cons
"We would like to see an upgrade to the VPN feature, we are using the VPN from outside of our office and there is a limitation to 10 connections, more connections would be suitable.""The search tool needs improvement. It's very difficult to search for policies right now.""They should improve the interface to make it more user-friendly.""The process of configuring firewall rules appears excessively complex.""The solution could be more user friendly.""There are a lot of bugs I have found in the solution and it is difficult to upgrade. These areas need improvement.""In terms of what could be improved, the SD-WAN is quite difficult, because if you install the new box, 15 is okay, but if you change from an old configuration, if there is already configuration and a policy when you change to SD-WAN, you must change the whole policy that you see in the interface.""The support from Fortinet FortiGate could improve. They are not easily accessible when we need them. They could improve their response time."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"The area where Check Point can improve is the antivirus, as it only provides a small number of updates for it. Updates should be more frequent.""When we hit a bug, the support team recommends some hotfix, and if we upgrade to that, we have to uninstall it before we apply some newer jumbo hotfix.""Unfortunately, the API is not fully complete and also it is not an API which I would refer to as a RESTful API as there are different endpoints for the same entity.""In terms of what could be improved, we have a cluster with two nodes and usually we have some problems when process gets really high and it has to choose which services it keeps going. I would like to have a better solution here, like if instead of just one we could use both at the same time. It would be good if it could work together. Then when one has a failure or something like that, the other one is there to transfer, to take all the services and keep working.""The virtual infrastructure of the central management requires a huge amount of resources to work properly and manage all the logs without problems.""The speed of technical support is very slow and is something that should be improved.""Check Point is a bit difficult to use and manage so it would be nice to see some improvement in those areas.""It would be ideal to manage everything from one central place."

More Check Point NGFW Cons →

"Huawei also need to improve spam techniques and add a web application firewall. Currently, Huawei does not have a built-in web application firewall (WAF) like Fortinet does.""Wi-Fi scanning and Wi-Fi analysis would be useful features to include in the future.""There needs to be more security equipment for the solution.""I would like to see an antivirus solution included with the product.""The tool does not have web functionality. It needs to also have high end firewalls.""The solution requires a more interactive dashboard. That would make it easier than playing with configurations the way we have to now.""The user interface could be more user-friendly.""The WAF capability in the Huawei Firewall is missing."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."
  • More Fortinet FortiGate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I don't think the product's pricing is a good value. I feel it's very overpriced. I feel a lot of the features for a next gen firewall are there. But I feel it's overpriced, because of the stability issues. As far as support goes, I really can't speak to direct Check Point support, but the third-party was pretty terrible... As far as the licensing goes, it's pretty complex. If anybody was to purchase the Check Point product, definitely make sure they have an account rep come on site, and explain it line by line, what each thing is. It's not straightforward. It's very convoluted. There's no way you could just figure it out by looking at it."
  • "Check Point solutions are very expensive here. They're good, but they're expensive... Check Point is only useful for customers that have a big IT budget."
  • "The price is high in comparison to other solutions."
  • "We pay $5,000-$6,000 a year."
  • "Maybe the pricing is a bit high but you get the durability and the duration."
  • "Licensing issues may be confusing at times."
  • "It is quite an expensive product, although security is a top priority."
  • "This product is not cheap and there are additional costs that depend on what model or package that you buy."
  • More Check Point NGFW Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing fees are billed on an annual basis."
  • "The price of the license of this solution is high."
  • "When you compare the price with other products, it's quite cost-effective. But the problem is always after, let's say, two years or three years later because they are not able to provide updates or patches very quickly."
  • "I believe that we are entitled to a one-year extension on our licensing."
  • "The solution isn't cheap. It's market price."
  • "The solution is inexpensive."
  • "Huawei is priced lower than most competitors."
  • "Huawei is 30% cheaper than Arista."

With the SmartConsole, users can manage all the firewall gateways and access logs and install databases from one location. Unified management control across the network increases the efficiency of security operations and reduces IT costs.
    • Continuous logging: Check Point NGFW’s Threat Management feature detects vulnerabilities and logs them. Using the logged data, users can easily create and implement efficient security policies.

    • Remote access: The remote access VPN provides a seamless connection for remote users.

Check Point NGFW is suitable for organizations of all sizes, from small businesses to larger enterprises.
