We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Having the ability to migrate machines live in our environment was made possible by this software.""We can lose a site or even two of our three, and we would lose no data and have no outage.""The ROI is great on this product.""We are able to do maintenance by bringing down one node at a time, rather than having to schedule a complete shutdown.""In addition to the main functions of the software, I want to note the excellent work of technical support.""The StarWind tech support is extremely helpful, especially during the initial setup.""In the three years that we have been using StarWind, the product has yet to cause us any problems.""Besides being 80% cheaper than the other alternatives, the simplicity makes reconfiguration and support much easier."

"I find the usability very valuable.""Cisco HyperFlex is helping us to put everything in centrally so that we can manage in one place.""It is a solution that best suits thre needs of our organization.""When we use it for VDI solutions, it is very easy to deploy and support.""It saves space for data centers, which is good.""It is very scalable. It is also very secure. Cisco's security portfolio is integrated with it, which makes it secure. It is a platform-based device. Its performance is also fairly good in comparison to any other solution.""The technical support has been very good for this solution.""Stretch cluster allows us to warranty a service for the customer."

"Installation is straightforward because it's a vSAN. It only took one or two days.""The VX machines are scalable.""We find the setup quite straightforward and very easy.""Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series' deployment is easy. We are a tier-one platinum partner who is into multiple implementations."

Cons
"StarWind Command Center's single-pane management solution only works with Hyper-V.""StarWind Virtual SAN could benefit from better integration with other tools and technologies, such as backup and disaster recovery solutions.""Proper training sessions should be included with the licensing.""Other vendors such as VMware vSAN have a bigger community of users, so it is easier to find more pre-sale or post-sale information from users.""This product could be improved with the inclusion of new health check procedures.""In the next release, they could make some graphs of the real-time loading, speed of storage, and interfaces. Of course, these can be viewed in other places. But, in the event of a malfunction or troubleshooting, this would be convenient.""For the StarWind VSA vSphere solution, I would like to see a simpler and automated virtual machine installation process in terms of network settings.""I'd prefer it if a remote console was provided."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons →

"Cisco HyperFlex should decrease the amount of memory needed from the Controller VM that controls the physical discs. They control the discs by using the virtual VM over every ESXi host and the VM consumes memory and consumes more hardware resources. They have to improve that by decreasing the amount of required memory and CPUs to control this disc on the server.""There is a VMware plugin for HyperFlex, which sometimes it hangs up in our environment, and doesn't function well.""I would have liked it to be able to back up the system to a cloud, to be able to work from any other place""It needs improvements in terms of I/O. Sometimes I have felt it is slightly slow while we are trying to provision VMs or access VMs.""Lacks some integration and documentation could be improved.""They can't get a POC to work because there are big latencies between the two sites we have. Even though we have a private fiber connection and everything else works well, they can't get the two products to talk to each other. They are not able to build it up. It looks like it's a firmware issue. They said it isn't but now it's looking like it is. I hope we can sort it out.""Cisco should combine its features with its prices.""The solution could improve by having more customization."

More Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series [EOL] Cons →

"The user management could be a bit better. It's something they could improve upon in future releases.""Support could be better.""Lenovo ThinkAgile VX Series needs to improve its stability. Its resolution should be faster.""With the VX machines, the clients often confuse the hardware itself with the services and resources. VMs are configured according to resources - memory, hard disk capacity, and network. These resources, including memory and processor, are actually shared on the VX Series. So, if the server's processor is underpowered or unreliable for the VMs, many of the VMs will encounter issues. Ideally, the physical server configuration should align more closely with the needs of the virtual servers."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."

  • "Cisco is quite expensive, but not in the initial first buy."
  • "Pricing is better if you buy more Cisco products."
  • "The pricing is a bit expensive."
  • "For customers in the private sector, this product can have a very high return on investment."
  • "If you don't look at the costs of the systems, the scalability is quite good."
  • "The price is a bit high. It could be better, but the product is worth the cost."
  • "I would like the pricing to be cheaper."
  • "Comparable solutions with switches, storage, and services are cheaper than HyperFlex. It should be cheaper."

  • "You need to pay a license for additional features. If we need to monitor hardware for the automatic alert notification, we need to pay them."
  • "The tool's pricing is competitive."
  • "There is room for improvement in the licensing structure, maybe. Regarding sizing the resources, sometimes it's difficult to calculate/compute them based on the client's requirements."
