Q&A Highlights
Question: Which product would you choose and why: Mist AI and Cloud or Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN?
Answer: Had so many problems with Meraki in the past 5 years. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. The last problem was intermittent problems connecting to an SSID, the helpdesk answer was: "make the password less complex". It was passw0rd. Roaming always seems to break whenever they do an update. One time it took more than a year to fix the issues, couldn't upgrade the firmware for more than a year. Every time I reported a problem, they wanted to upgrade our firmware, but they hadn't fixed the roaming problem. Wifi works so much better now when we moved away from Meraki. Plus, we don't have to pay the license fee anymore.

"The AI deployment process involves adding access points and placing them in the designated area. The AI system automatically adjusts channel selection and transmission power without any issues with stability or throughput. It has improved network performance.""Mist AI and Cloud have definitely improved the functioning of our organization. The access to the Internet, including its speed and reliability, has significantly improved.""The most useful aspect of Mist AI and Cloud is automation capabilities.""The triangulation feature can be used to determine where a person is in relation to the access point.""Natural language patching is an important feature.""If you compare wired versus wireless, it's convenient. Cons
"Improving third-party integration is key for Juniper Mist's next release.""Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) could improve if the MIST platform had a built-in master key. This would be an advantage.""The pricing is very high in the Indian market.""The pricing should be made cheaper.""Enrolling into the tool is a tedious process.""It would be helpful to have even stronger security features to help protect against interference from other nearby access points that aren't part of our network.""The price could be better.""Juniper Mist Wireless Access Points’ support services need improvement."

More Juniper Mist Wireless Access Points Cons →

"It would be better if they enable full integration with Cisco's cloud-based network in the next release.""I would like to see more cybersecurity. I would like the ability to go in and enhance security. Because WPA2 is becoming obsolete, many devices are now WPA3, but the challenge is that a lot of devices are not yet there. I would like to be able to go in and do monitoring, similar to ASPM. ASPM has the ability to monitor who's joining and who's active. It supports two-step monitoring. The stability of Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN can also be improved.""I would like to see them improve their support where an assigned engineer can take the case all the way to closure. Usually, you get a different engineer calling regarding the same ticket.""The initial setup could be made easier.""Some of their first level support staff does not seem to be well-versed in the solution, so support for Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN needs improvement.""The technical support for Meraki needs improvements made to the waiting times.""Meraki should share their viability roadmap. It is really hard to know which functionality will appear or when they will be available. It is also hard to know which features are available now but are not visible on the dashboard.""This solution could benefit from a heat mapping ability so that you can tell where the hotspots are, and where the good signals are."

More Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN Cons →

"In future releases, they need to add some router models. Because currently, it supports only SSR and WAN routers. But adding other routers would be good.""If there's one thing I'd like to change, it's the pricing. They are quite expensive, but honestly, it's justified by the value they provide. However, for a simple Wi-Fi connectivity with basic security needs, there are alternatives in the market that offer comparable features at a more budget-friendly price.""There seems to be different versions of standards used in the wireless access points. In the future, it would be helpful if the solution could come up with some kind of universal standard for all devices and all access points.""The solution lacks documentation.""Mist AI and Cloud should be marketed more and focus on making partners in the industry.""There are some technical issues that may require attention""There is no local support for Mist in Brazil.""The solution doesn't provide mail notifications currently."

  • "Negotiate the deal put in front of you!"
  • "At this price point, I would not mind seeing a four-way channel, instead of a 3x3 or a 4x4, like they do in the Cisco Aironet system with their other brand. For the same price point in this other Cisco brand, it is a lot cheaper, and you can get a slightly better throughput than you can with these."
  • "If you are wondering if Meraki can work for you, contact one of their representatives because they will do onsite trials where you can set up their system. If it does not work, you can send it back to them for no charge."
  • "The price is negotiable."

  • "The price of Mist AI and Cloud is approximately 20 percent less than competitors, such as Aruba and Cisco. However, Cisco has a lifetime warranty for its solutions."
  • "The solution's price is too high for the end-users. My customers pay 1,000 USD towards the licensing cost of the solution every year."
