We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Pure FlashArray X NVMe helps to improve our processing speed. It is user-friendly and easy to use.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe will quickly overcome all the hurdles you face, including network and latency issues.""We're able to get higher-density workloads on the same infrastructure, and we have a smaller physical footprint. The performance is excellent – during our test the bottlenecks are never on the X array, it just keeps picking up the pace to match what you need. The real-time visibility is a differentiator in my opinion.""It is very easy to install and configure. It has got excellent diagnostics. If you really need to see how the box is performing, the console gives you a lot of information. You can set thresholds as well as alerts based on the thresholds, which is a very powerful functionality. They are very proactive. They know how to monitor and manage the systems. They see a problem, and they are all over it before us. They see the problem before we see it, which is very good.""One of the best features is the support, which is excellent.""The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance.""The high availability of the product is the most valuable feature.""The most valuable features of Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its superior performance compared to other flash tiers, as well as its ease of use, with an intuitive user interface that is simple to deploy and use."

"The compression and deduplication are the most valuable features because of the cost savings.""It was easy for teams to pick up the technology with very limited exposure and training, then implement and support it.""It is a true, stable product.""The UI is very easy to use. We can add volumes and manage them easily.""You can use PowerMax for all workloads and consolidation. We have used it to scale thousands of VMs.""The speed and the compatible interface with IBM are the most valuable features of the PowerMax product.""We were able to move away from a middleware solution for high availability, going right to snapshots and data replication on arrays.""It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."

More Dell PowerMax NVMe Pros →

"In my opinion, HPE is making good progress and moving ahead with InfoSight, which is predictive analytics and artificial intelligence.""The product has better replication features than the previous products.""HPE Primera is scalable.""The product is stable.""It is stable and reliable.""It is a stable and scalable solution with quick and efficient storage capability.""When taking into account the price, maintenance required, and performance of HPE Primera, it is an effective solution.""There has been a lot of changes in HPE Primera OS, and most of the time any package related to it is simple to upgrade. It does not require any support for the operation. The customer can easily deploy any code directly from the GUI which is very good. Additionally, we have individual storage we can allocate and easily manage."

Cons
"They could add more support for file storage and different types of storage.""There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""There is room for improvement in the pricing of the product.""Every time I think of something that needs to improve, they're one step ahead, which I love. The only area I wish to see improve, I believe is coming, is in the FlashBlade product. Blade implementation fell short on a few of the services.""Efficiency improvements would always be welcome, but I'm not sure if they could get more efficient.""The tool's portfolio is minimal. It is expensive.""You cannot tag a LUN with a description, and that should be improved. What I like on the Unity side is that when I expand LUNs or do things, there is an information field on the LUN. This is the Information field that you can tag on your LUNs to let yourself know, "Hey, I've added this much space on this date". Pure lacks that ability. So, you don't have a mechanism that's friendly for tracking your data expansions on the LUN and for adding any additional information. That's a downside for me.""The UI for this solution needs to be improved."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"If the solution had more power-saving capabilities, it would be quite nice.""The initial setup was a little bit complicated.""The initial setup could be easier.""They should work with the storage engineers to better tweak the management tools to give them improved visibility into their data.""Setting up PowerMax with VMAX is always complex.""We had challenges again with the initial setup. I don't know if there was a gap during the requirement-collection phase, but the box was partially delivered to us with missing parts and it delayed the implementation by about 60 days. It was not as smooth as I would have hoped.""I hear from people on my team that they would like improved reporting. While there are some decent tools for doing reporting, they would like to see a lot more built-in functionality. This way when they are logged into the interface everyday doing basic management tasks, they could also see some statistics on what is their storage pool usage and will be their projected usage with their current data growth. They want to be able to see more detailed stats on how they are using the system and have forecasting.""We brought up this question to the implementation engineer. We were comparing use cases where a customer is using RecoverPoint, then goes to PowerMax. In our previous setup with XtremIO, we were using RecpverPoint and keeping snapshots for 30 days, every few seconds. With PowerMax, I requested this for every 15 minutes, keeping it for a week. The engineer's answer was, "There will be too many snapshots. It might slow down the system." This is specifically for the use cases where there is RecoverPoint. While PowerMax works with RecoverPoint, and you can use it, there should be some way where you can have even more snapshots and not to worry about performance and system cache."

More Dell PowerMax NVMe Cons →

"The reporting console can be improved with out of the box reports.""Only HPE can manage the product.""I would like to see improved training offered with HPE Primera.""The initial setup is not straightforward.""We cannot use this storage for critical applications and data.""There really isn't any aspect of the solution that needs improvement for the customer other than its price.""HPE Primera's deduplication area is not as good as the one offered by Dell PowerStore, making it an area where improvements are required.""HPE Primera's pricing model is an area of concern and can be considered for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "Our costs for the product are three million."
  • "From reclaiming data center space which is so tightly constrained these days, it will pay for itself in a short amount of time, which is fantastic. Anything we can do to get more out of our current physical data center space helps us a ton, and PowerMax has helped enable that."
  • "Our costs are on a yearly basis."
  • "It scales enormously, but it's expensive to do so."
  • "From a general capital investment, it's one of the higher price points in the market. It depends on the size and software features that you would include in a system. So, the cost varies dramatically."
  • "The cost has room for improvement."
  • "The cost is expensive. While VMAX now has good pricing, PowerMax is a little expensive."
  • "We hope that with the combination of both NVMe and SCM the next PowerMax will be much cheaper that the one which we acquired."
  • More Dell PowerMax NVMe Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The price of this solution is good for medium-sized and large businesses."
  • "From what I see, this is competitively-priced and HPE are doing their best to stay competitive."
  • "The price to capacity ratio is good."
  • "It is basically in the mid-range of the price. It is not cheaper than Hitachi, but it is cheaper than Pure Storage. There are no additional costs. Everything was taken care of in the price."
  • "Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis and the cost of GreenLake service is included."
  • "I believe HPE Primera and Pure Storage are similar in price."
  • "There is only a one-time license purchase needed and no additional costs. If HP could reduce the training cost, then that would be advantageous to the seller."
  • "The price of HPE Primera could improve, it is expensive."
