Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The main benefit of Fortinet FortiManager is the ability to control all the devices from a central location, view their statuses, and manage their configurations and updates from a single management console.""The reports feature is excellent.""The solution has the best stability for application control and inspections.""A fully integrated solution.""It would normally take us a handful of days to install one FortiGate instance on one site. But with this technology, zero-touch deployment, we need just one hour or maybe as little as 30 minutes to install one site. It is much more efficient.""Technical support is great. When we have sent urgent tickets and they do reply back within fifteen minutes.""It is easy to deploy to licenses.""The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiManager is the ease of manageability and policy-pushing functionality."

More Fortinet FortiManager Pros →

"The most valuable features are the monitoring and the ease with which we can set it up at customer sites with our custom Zabbix proxy and tools.""It has an intuitive UI with beautiful graphs and customizable maps.""The flexibility of this solution is amazing.""Dashboard and the customization of the items and triggers are the most valuable features.""The most valuable feature is service assurance.""The most valuable feature is the monitoring of virtual machines.""During my testing, the features that I like the most are that it can be integrated with my system, and it provides me with reports of all of my servers.""The most valuable feature is the alert and alarm monitoring."

Cons
"This solution needs more experienced technical support staff. There's nothing special about it compared to other vendors.""Fortinet FortiManager could improve them by adding more portfolio components.""FortiManager could improve by making it easier to port larger policy packages to the FortiGate firewalls. Sometimes, there's an issue when we install a big package of policies. If you have a couple thousand policies for FortiGate firewalls, it can take a few minutes to receive a response from the remote devices. It's only an issue when you're dealing with thousands of policies and installing them on a large number of devices.""FortiManager would be improved by putting everything into a single console, including Microsoft O365 integration.""Wizards could be improved in pushing policies.""There may be a communication issue. However, other items may be the culprit, such as network connectivity. It depends on the customer's network.""The response times from technical support need to be a bit quicker.""The solution could improve by having better integration with other solutions other than Fortinet."

More Fortinet FortiManager Cons →

"The GUI could be more intuitive. Also, we'd like streaming telemetry. Zabbix might have this feature, but I haven't seen it yet. It took us a long time to get started because the documentation isn't very descriptive. We had to go through various sources like YouTube and forums to get this solution working.""We would like to see the addition of automatic push functionality to this product. This would save time when monitoring our servers and networks as, at present, we have to manually install the Zabbix agent on any hardware to be monitored.""The dashboard and the graph section could be a little bit more professional.""The event correlation could be better.""The reporting features need improvement, especially detailed inventory reporting. Since it's freeware, reporting may not be a major focus.""I would like to better be able to monitor Oracle processes.""The reports are not great and should be improved.""Zabbix does not draw automatic mapping of the network, this is something they should add in the future. There is a lot of effort that is involved in tailoring some of the settings which could be made easier."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
