We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Technical support has been helpful and responsive.""The latency is good.""The solution is very straightforward to set up.""It has benefited my organization because it has reduced time to insights.""One of the best features is the support, which is excellent.""It's incredibly easy to use and greatly simplified our ability to both deploy and manage our storage subsystems.""The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability.""We're able to get higher-density workloads on the same infrastructure, and we have a smaller physical footprint. The performance is excellent – during our test the bottlenecks are never on the X array, it just keeps picking up the pace to match what you need. The real-time visibility is a differentiator in my opinion."

"It is robust. It doesn't need too much troubleshooting. It is a good device.""One of the features, for us, that is important is the monitoring platform integrated into the solution. It has all the elements that we need to see, at all times, to be sure the platform is working right.""It is very flexible, and it is very useful when you want to virtualize different storage from different vendors.""The active-active option seemed to be working well and overall, it was a solid product.""This is one of the most stable, high-end solutions in this area.""There are no significant challenges in terms of scalability, and it can accommodate larger storage capacities compared to other storage solutions.""It is the most stable high-end solution in this area.""The setup is very easy to manage and configure. The initial setup and takes one hour more or less."

"This is an all-flash storage array. It is the best solution for large batch processing. There are some customer databases that have tens of millions of records in one large database. That's where VIOLIN performs the best. VIOLIN stands out for million of IOPS with ultra-low latency. VIOLIN can provide about two million IOPS in a 3U unit. We have a latency of less than one millisecond."

Cons
"I'd like to see the product implement active replication for vehicles such as VMware.""They could add more support for file storage and different types of storage.""There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features.""Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better.""You cannot tag a LUN with a description, and that should be improved. What I like on the Unity side is that when I expand LUNs or do things, there is an information field on the LUN. This is the Information field that you can tag on your LUNs to let yourself know, "Hey, I've added this much space on this date". Pure lacks that ability. So, you don't have a mechanism that's friendly for tracking your data expansions on the LUN and for adding any additional information. That's a downside for me.""The tool's portfolio is minimal. It is expensive.""The UI for this solution needs to be improved.""I would like to see replication and DR features in the next release of this solution."

"Hitachi Vantara has invested heavily in improving their management interface, however, they still have a way to go to catch up with many of their competitors.""In terms of ransomware, Pure Storage is probably a couple of steps ahead of Hitachi, but Hitachi does not rush in terms of features. They want to be really sure that the hardware works properly without any kind of problem in new environments, and the implementation or improvement does not affect the customer installation. They really want to make sure that customers are not affected in any way.""The controllers in the product do not provide options for scalability.""The initial deployment was somewhat complex when it came to the installation because of the network connectivity. It was more difficult, in this specific case, than with other platforms.""Hitachi should offer a distinct overview of the various storage choices.""They should look at the cost because there are other vendors who offer the same cost with more features.""In terms of what could be improved, it could use a better, faster web console and other consoles. It is so boring waiting, waiting and waiting for it to refresh.""For mission critical issues the performance is low."

"Its overall usability can be improved. It takes some time to know small things here and there to make sure it is working properly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."
  • More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing we get is very competitive when compared to other vendors. Hitachi is working on their licensing model and it is improving but can be irksome when many different items are not bundled or enterprise size."
  • "Our main issue with the Hitachi G-Series is what we consider to be an archaic software licensing scheme and high maintenance costs."
  • "It is a little expensive."
  • "I would like to see better pricing and more discounts."
  • "Pricing could be better, because the cost is very high."
  • "This solution is cheaper than Dell EMC VMAX. When you are looking for a high-end solution, price matters, but availability and stability are more important than the price."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "When you are looking for high-end solutions such as this, price is less important than stability and availability."
  • More Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Software licensing is a part of the hardware. There is no separate software license. When you purchase the hardware, it has everything included. It has a one-time initial purchase fee. There is also the annual maintenance and the support maintenance cost. Support and maintenance are a part of the new hardware during the initial one year or three years. After that, support and maintenance are optional."
