Problem free scalability, reliable, with straightforward setup
It has good, reliable, and fast storage. We really like snapshot features and how automatable and programmable it is. It is all managed with ad sport and playbooks We have been using Pure FlashArray X NVMe for about a year now. Scalability has been great. We have run into a couple of instances…

A high-performing and scalable solution that improves data performance for S3 workloads
We use the solution for S3 storage and Kubernetes backup FlashBlade is so much easier to use than the previous solution; it reduced the time to market to serve our customers. I like the way it streams data performance for S3 workloads and object workloads. FlashBlade could improve its…

Solid hardware, fast performance, and reduced administrative time
Its performance is amazing. Since I have put Tintri in, I haven't had a complaint from anybody about slowness. On top of that, there is block-level cloning and the ability to spin up VMs. We use that in our architecture. We don't deploy in a traditional manner anymore by using a kickstart server, ISO, or anything. We keep VM templates, not even VMware templates. We utilize Tintri with Ansible to provision our environments, and it's pretty awesome. It's instantaneous and very cool. Its GUI is very good now. For a long time, it had been Flash. When Flash got deprecated, they were able to roll out everything to HTML5. The new HTML5 is in Tintri Global Center as well as on the individual VM stores, which is great. In the NetApp days, NetApps were dinosaurs. It took one person to manage the storage, carve out LUNS, carve out aggregates, etc. One person would spend all his time on storage, whereas Tintri is like a 30-minute challenge where you can order a Domino's pizza and get it. You plug it in, and it just runs. It is that intuitive and that simple. The GUI is very straightforward. It shows you a nice mapping of the hardware and everything else and how it's working. It's a true example of plug-and-play. For something which is as important as your storage, I can't emphasize how much and how important that is. It is literally one of the single most important pieces of hardware I have in my data centers. I have a T880, T800, and T1000. The problem Tintri has is that they make their products so good that you don't ever need to replace them. You just need to buy more. They have kind of shot themselves in the foot with that. I update my software, and I've never reached the end where I couldn't update the software. I'm still running a couple of six-year-old Tintri that are killing what people bought yesterday. They had some initial issues with their first offering and their old management before they were bought by DDN, but the hardware and the platform have always been solid and spectacular. When they had all that issues, I stuck tight and held them. I was like, "No, this hardware is too good." I believed in it, and then DDN came and picked it up. They saw what I saw. Anybody who uses it will have the same opinion.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's incredibly easy to use and greatly simplified our ability to both deploy and manage our storage subsystems."
"The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability."
"It is very easy to install and configure. It has got excellent diagnostics. If you really need to see how the box is performing, the console gives you a lot of information. You can set thresholds as well as alerts based on the thresholds, which is a very powerful functionality. They are very proactive. They know how to monitor and manage the systems. They see a problem, and they are all over it before us. They see the problem before we see it, which is very good."
"What I really like about this program, is that it is easy to use and easy to configurate."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is its ease of use."
"It's helped us because we've changed fundamentally what we talk about. We don't talk about storage and different tiers of storage anymore nor do we talk about servers. We talk now about applications and how applications impact the business and end users."
"Offers excellent features like efficient data reduction, a reliable SafeMode, and a great support model for continuous assistance and updates."
"Pure FlashArray X NVMe helps to improve our processing speed. It is user-friendly and easy to use."
"It has absolutely simplified our storage because the dashboards on the consoles show a clear understanding of where you are, and it is also very easy to provision. This been a big help for our teams."
"The initial setup is pretty easy and simple."
"The initial setup was straightforward. If you know how to plug in power and network you're pretty much qualified. They were on site to configure the network, the box to fit into our network architecture. Other than that, we self-managed from there."
"The most valuable features include the ease of implementation, ease of use and the speed that you can do backup and recovery on."
"It has also helped to simplify storage for us in the way that it's easy to manage. Their automatic monitoring really helps when things break or are about to break. They see a problem coming and alert us even before our own system does."
"The solution provides many controllers."
"The most valuable features are the Metro clustering, and disaster recovery."
"The most valuable features of this solution are the rewrite speed and the nonstop services."
"The ability to snap machines into VMware quickly is valuable."
"Performance, cost, and ease of storage management."
"I've worked on both EMC and NetApp SANs, and this is by far the easiest system to maintain"
"The management dashboards keep improving and allow for quick and easy tracing of issues."
"We have been able to scale up to ten VM storages and 500 VMs through a single pane of glass."
"Its VM-aware features have been excellent to use and integrate with XenServer as well."
"Among the most valuable features are its granular replication, the ability to define asynchronous or synchronous replication, which gives us very definable RTOs and RPOs around that type of service, and granular quality-of-service configuration, which allows for cases where you've got multiple customers on a single Tintri, but you want to be able to offer strong quality-of-service metrics and KPIs."
"The most valuable feature is the VM management."

Cons

"The tool's pricing is higher than competitors."
"We've seen that when we create a POD in synchronous mode, it increases the latency."
"The tool's portfolio is minimal. It is expensive."
"I would like to see replication and DR features in the next release of this solution."
"There is room for improvement in the pricing of the product."
"We would like to see more visibility into garbage collection and CPU performance in the GUI."
"Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better."
"They could add more support for file storage and different types of storage."
"I would like to have Snapshots and Snapmail in the next release. People who came from a NetApp background, especially expect these features."
"I would like to see better integration."
"It would be nice if you could store file-based in the same box with the same technology."
"I would like to see more monitoring capability included in the next release of this solution."
"The features provided for SMB customers are limited."
"In the realm of micro-services, I think that Pure Storage can do well if they start getting in there and making their arrays more micro-services ready."
"I want efficiency. FlashBlade doesn't have efficiency now."
"Compared to, for example, Hitachi NAS, the solution is not mature at all. It's just in its infancy as far as technology goes."
"It would be beneficial if Tintri could identify issues through telemetry and notify us before we need to contact them."
"The Tintri Analytics site is excellent for long-term trending, but more data would be great."
"Speed of our VDI machines. We have a very high log in and log out ratio and machines are being refreshed instantly so we have a constant boot storm on our storage."
"Detailed reporting is missing in the current version. We would like to see this feature added in a new release."
"Tintri's Cloud Connector currently only goes to AWS and IBM Cloud, and we don't use either because we're Microsoft Silver Partners. It would be great to get the Cloud Connector feature with Azure. If it's not already on Tintri's roadmap, that's something I'd like to see."
"What I feel would be nice, in terms of a wishlist, is scalability. Rather than replacing the whole appliance, I would like to be able to just add another unit and scale it like that."
"I would like to be able to add more storage capacity to our 2 units down the road with out buying an additional seprate array."
"I would love more insight into each virtual machine statistic."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
"Pretty much everything that you need is licensed when you buy the product. Licensing to me is different than the maintenance cost, but they can bleed into one another. We buy the product, and we expect three years of support bundled into what we negotiate on our storage arrays. I would start to see maintenance costs going into the fourth year, but we're not there yet."
"Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
"They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
"The tool is an investment that we've budgeted for. While the prices may be higher than those of other vendors, we see it as a market leader with benefits. We don't regret purchasing it."
"The licensing is on a yearly basis."
"Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
"With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
"The price is a little high."
"The product is very expensive."
"It's a costly solution, but Pure Storage FlashBlade doesn't require additional licenses. All of the software is combined into one bundle."
"I feel that the price could always be lowered."
"Licensing fees are paid yearly."
"I have seen ROI. It has allowed me to increase the density of my VMs without having to purchase anything additional."
"We used a reseller for the purchase."
"The price of this solution could be made more affordable."
"Ensure the storage system "natively" supports the protocols that you wish to use (i.e., CIFS) without the need for the overhead of internal "conversion VMs" that run the protocols."
"What I have heard, price-wise, is that Tinti was definitely very competitive. That's one of the reasons it was chosen for us."
"With any SAN purchase, the sizing procedure is the most important step."
"Tintri arrays are cheaper then other vendors while still providing an excellent level of performance."
"The cost of all the SW is well spent because it makes you save on backup and DR."
"We haven't found Tintri's pricing to be a barrier to entry for any of our customers. Tintri works through a number of distributors and when we've had to purchase it for our customers we have found the pricing to be competitive."
"It's very competitive."
"I've always gotten excellent pricing. I'm very satisfied with the pricing that I receive."
