We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is also easy to learn and user-friendly. Microsoft is also good in terms of technical support. They have built a large community all over the world.""In SSIS, the scope is not only to handle ETL challenges, but it will allow us to do so many other tasks, such as DBA activities, scripting, calling any .exe or scripts, etc.""The debugging capabilities are great, particularly during data flow execution. You can look into the data and see what's going on in the pipeline.""It is easy to set up. The deployment is also very quick.""The most valuable thing is that it is easy to connect with Microsoft tools. In Europe, particularly in France, a lot of companies use Excel, SQL Server, and other Microsoft tools, and it is easier to connect SSIS with Microsoft tools than other products.""The most valuable feature of SSIS is its ease of use. It is easier to use than other applications.""The data reader is the most valuable feature.""The technical support is very good."

"Live Query data on demand, R and Python integration, and the ability to write HTML and JavaScript text areas are all valuable features.""I appreciate Spotfire's range of visualization options, advanced analytics features, and seamless integration with other TIBCO products.""The ability to create a real-time data mark, using just one piece of software, is the best feature of this product.""The two features that I have found most valuable are its ability to customize the dashboards when it comes to the evaluation. The second feature is its ability to handle a large amount of data, which is also something very unique about it.""The most valuable feature is the map visuals that help us connect to the geo-specialized data which is more advanced than other solutions.""The out-of-the-box features are simple and easy to use across the board.""The ability to connect to many different data sources is one of the key features. The other would then be the different ways in which that data can be visualized.""The most valuable features of TIBCO Spotfire are visualization. It's very nice, clear, and, flexible. You can analyze many data types and the user interface is very good."

Cons
"In terms of its performance, it could be better. That could be something that would be easy and welcomed as an upgrade.""We've had issues in terms of the amount of data that is transferred when we are scheduling.""SSIS is cumbersome despite its drag-and-drop functionality. For example, let's say I have 50 tables with 30 columns. You need to set a data type for each column and table. That's around 1,500 objects. It gets unwieldy adding validation for every column. Previously, SSIS automatically detected the data type, but I think they removed this feature. It would automatically detect if it's an integer, primary key, or foreign key column. You had fewer problems building the model.""It would be nice if you could run SSIS on other environments besides Windows.""I would like to see better technical documentation because many times information is missing.""Sometimes we need to connect to AWS to get additional data sources, so we have to install some external LAN and not a regular RDBMS. We need external tools to connect. It would be great if SSIS included these tools. I'd also like some additional features for row indexing and data conversion.""Involving a data lake or data engineering aspects would be useful. While it is there, we need more features included.""We'd like more integration capabilities."

More SSIS Cons →

"The initial setup of TIBCO Spotfire is in the middle range of difficulty. The initial setup of Power BI is easier.""We would like to see some improvement in the default properties of the solution, so that there is less need for us to spend our time coding.""We would like an easier way to get the product to the cloud. Right now, we have the on-premise version, and we would like to find a way to make it easier to migrate it over to the cloud.""We would like to see some development in the visualization aspect of this solution, as they can currently only be configured in the cloud, which limits us to one endpoint. It would be helpful if this could be integrated with other tools.""The initial setup can be difficult.""The way TIBCO Spotfire is designed, in my opinion, is the reason why it lags a bit, especially compared to other BI tools like Qlik.""I would like to see the visualization library in this solution expanded, so that I can increase what I can offer to our clients.""We encountered difficulties connecting the special data sets, as the post data set did not contain any shared columns, making it difficult to establish a connection between the data sets."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers."
  • "My advice is to look at what your configuration will be because most companies have their own deals with Microsoft."
  • "This solution is included with the MSSQL server package."
  • "It would be beneficial if the solution had a less costly cloud offering."
  • "Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
  • "We have an enterprise license for this solution."
  • "It comes bundled with other solutions, which makes it difficult to get the price on the specific product."
  • "All of my clients have this product included as part of their Microsoft license."
  • More SSIS Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The ROI is nearly impossible to calculate."
  • "The pricing seems competitive and reasonable. The value delivered by the product far exceeds the cost."
  • "The Tibco sales teams have been very difficult to work with - ignoring requests, misrepresenting level of demand, etc."
  • "The cost is a few hundred dollars per user per year."
  • "The cost of TIBCO Spotfire could improve. It should be less expensive. It's the most expensive visualization tool in our company."
  • "The price-point for this solution is negotiable depending on usage levels."
  • "This product carries a monthly licensing charge, with the amount depending on the features that are to be included. This costs also covers the use of technical support."
  • "In comparison to other solutions such as IBM Cognos, TIBCO Spotfire is more affordable."

Technology has made it easier for businesses to organize and manipulate data to get a clearer picture of what’s going on with their business. Notably, ETL tools have made managing huge amounts of data significantly easier and faster, boosting many organizations’ business intelligence operations There are many third-party vendors offering ETL solutions, but two of the most popular are PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services). Each technology has its advantages but there are also similarities on how they carry out the extract-transform-load processes and only differ in terminologies. If you’re in the process of choosing ETL tools and PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS made it to your shortlist, here is a short comparative discussion detailing the differences between the two, as well as their benefits. Package Configuration Most enterprise data integration projects would require the capacity to develop a solution in one platform and test and deploy it in a separate environment without having to manually change the established workflow. In order to achieve this seamless movement between two environments, your ETL technology should allow the dynamic update of the project’s properties using the content or a parameter file or configuration. Both Informatica and SSIS support this functionality using different methodologies. In Informatica, every session can have more than one source and one or more destination connections. There are… Read more →
