We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The predictive survey is the most valuable feature. I use it quite often.""The benefit is with the ease of use of the software, I am able to show the customer, "Here is what your wireless coverage looks like." It is set up in a fashion that non-technical people can understand it.""The heat maps are quite good, and some features are easy to use.""The most valuable features are the survey, spectrum analysis, and reporting.""The addition of the AirMapper software on the nXG and our AirCheck G2s has helped a lot because we're mostly not drilling down into the data. Local managers only need to see the coverage on their end and whether there are performance bottlenecks. These things are easy enough for us to ascertain with iPerf.""I would like to rate the product as eight of ten.""It is reliable and easy to use (user-friendly). The heat mapping, passive network surveying, and doing the heat mapping of a building's wireless network allows me to see what level of coverage an area has.""Using the products to ensure the safety of our equipment that we have a lot invested in."

"It is tough, has a nice speed, and is quite reliable.""The capacity, security, downloading, and exporting data are all very good. It's user-friendly, but if I look at Meraki versus normal Cisco equipment, then I think that Meraki will be much more user-friendly.""The ability to deploy wireless access points with templates.""The initial setup is straightforward.""The most valuable feature is the coverage.""The switches can even detect cable issues which quite often can be the main cause for a call-out within my business.""Wireless connectivity is the main feature. It is also securely integrated with ISE, which is valuable because, in the banking industry, we also cover the security aspect. This Wi-Fi controller integrates with the ISE system that we have. Every user that comes on the wireless needs to log in with the domain. If they don't, it will not allow the user to join the network. This is the key feature of this solution.""The ability to make different types of networks, such as land networks, is the most valuable part of the solution."

Cons
"The surveying features are in need of improvement, along with general usability.""Printouts are JPEG printouts. The AirMagnet software is proprietary. I can't send my customers a file, because it is AirMagnet file, even for building projects. I can only send JPEGs or screenshots of heat maps.""I would say some of our newer techs that are going out to job sites can be a little bit intimidated by the interface.""The throughput should be more advanced in the future. They need to add more versions of WiFi than just one.""Less time consumed doing the real surveys.""It would be nice to have some more training resources for younger techs. We can use them if we need some assistance, but that usually requires one of us who knows what we're doing to calibrate the programs properly.""It'd be nice if it was cheaper, however, you get value for your money.""When you conduct an active survey and then want to use it for design work, it's actually not very useful."

More AirMagnet Survey Cons →

"Cisco Wireless does not have a dashboard that would make it easier for people to manage the solution, such as Cisco Meraki where you are able to monitor the network through the dashboard and everything is visible making it easier.""One of our customers complained about the ripple, that some of the data was incorrect. We opened a ticket and brought it to their attention that maybe some of the data was not correct. As of now, it has been two months since we opened the ticket and the issue still hasn't been resolved.""We use a Cisco product called Room Kit for meetings. It would be nice if Cisco could improve that. I would also like a cloud solution.""The price should be reduced. It should be cheaper.""The security must be improved.""There are some areas of improvement needed in roaming and streaming.""Cisco Wireless needs to improve pricing. I understand that Cisco products are typically more expensive than other vendors. Therefore, I believe that adjusting the pricing could potentially be beneficial. Discounts may be available depending on the customer or type of purchase, which could help offset the higher costs.""An expensive solution that small companies cannot afford."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The moment we began needing more of the vendor's support, the cost became very high; we switched to another solution."
  • "For technical support, you need an annual license, but it is not worth it."
  • "The pricing needs improvement."
  • "This product is very expensive."
  • "There is an annual cost of the solution. There are some additional charges, such as support and maintenance."
  • "The tool's pricing is medium."

  • "It is an expensive solution."
  • "Expensive."
  • "As far as I know Cisco is very competitive, price-wise. Talk to your third-party vendor. It all depends on the company size - how many employees, how big the building is. If it's wireless, and you have only 50 employees but you're using a large building floor, in that case you need many access points. But if you have 50 employees using two or three rooms, then you probably don't need it and it's going to be high density, so there is a different design. So you need to talk to a subject matter expert. Talk to them and design accordingly."
  • "Cisco is more on the expensive side, as compared to Aruba, but I must say Cisco's quality is unmatched, for sure."
  • "I am not a fan of Cisco's software pricing model. Their management software is far too expensive."
  • "The pricing is high. It could be cheaper."
  • "Never pay the full GPL price."
  • "Pricing is a bit on the high side compared to its competitors but we have to consider the support and usages of the solution. Licensing is now RTU and smart licensing. We need three types of licenses. One for each of the: APs, HA, controller."
