We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The primary features we have focused on are reporting and optimization.""The recommendation of the family types is a huge help because it has saved us a lot of money. We use it primarily for that. Another thing that Turbonomic provides us with is a single platform that manages the full application stack and that's something I really like.""We like that Turbonomic shows application metrics and estimates the impact of taking a suggested action. It provides us a map of resource utilization as part of its recommendation. We evaluate and compare that to what we think would be appropriate from a human perspective to that what Turbonomic is doing, then take the best action going forward.""The notifications saying, "This is a corrective action," even though some of them can be automated, are always welcome to see. They summarize your entire infrastructure and how you can better utilize it. That is the biggest feature.""The ability to monitor and automate both the right-sizing of VMs as well as to automate the vMotion of VMs across ESXi hosts.""The automation and orchestration components are definitely the best part, as you can tell it what it can do and when, and just let it be.""I have the ability to automate things similar to the Orchestrator stuff. I do have the ability to have it do some balancing, and if it sees some different performance metrics that I've set not being met, it'll actually move some of my virtual machines from, let's say, one host to another. It is sort of an automation tool that helps me. Basically, I specify the metric, and if I get a certain host or something being over-utilized, it'll automatically move the virtual machines around for me. It basically has to snap into my vCenter and then it can make adjustments and move my virtual machines around. It also has some very nice reporting tools built around virtual machines. It tells you how much storage, memory, or CPU is being used monthly, and then it gives you a very nice way to be able to send out billing structure to your end users who use servers within your environment.""I only deal with the infrastructure side, so I really couldn't speak to more than load balancing as the most valuable feature for me. It provides specific actions that prevent resource starvation. It always keeps things in perfect balance."

"Compliance is the most valuable feature.""The solution's initial setup was easy for me.""There are two features in Control Tower which are the most valuable. One is the guardrails because it has preventive and detective guardrails.""The most significant benefit of Control Tower is its capability to align with our organization's standards.""It aligns well with the customer's needs and it ultimately fosters a strong customer-company relationship.""One of the standout advantages is the fine-grained control it offers in terms of permissions and privileges.""AWS Control Tower helps companies save costs.""It is incredibly user-friendly and functions seamlessly."

"The solution provides very useful insights for application and database performance tuning. We were able to do away with guess work in determining where the bottlenecks were in application performance.""If you're using Oracle products, you should definitely use Oracle Enterprise Manager because it is central to product management.""Using Enterprise Manager, I was able to create user profiles for all the instances that have the same profile. Secondly, it's easier to manage performance, to automate the AWR reports to run every half an hour, or hour. Then, if you have a performance issue you just open the report and you can see what was running the last one hour, the SQL statements, or what was causing the performance issues.""Compared to other monitoring products, the user interface is very clear. It sends clear notifications.""One of the clearest examples is the agility of discovering processes/sessions that are burdening the database environment. With this agility, the DBA can more quickly verify this type of problem, in addition to checking locked sessions and not having to do several searches in views and tables of the data dictionary. The tool already does this for you in an agile way.""The solution is stable. It is great in terms of Oracle products, especially for Oracle databases.""Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control has an amazing GUI interface that does a lot of tasks with fewer steps rather than making it manual on the database or the operating system side.""The tool's most valuable feature is notifications. It is also flexible in defining metrics where you can specify any metric type. Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control helps monitor the resources you manage so that you do not overpay."

Cons
"Before IBM bought it, the support was fantastic. After IBM bought it, the support became very disappointing.""I like the detail I get in the old user interface and will miss some of that in the new interface when we perform our planned upgrade soon.""The reporting needs to be improved. It's important for us to know and be able to look back on what happened and why certain decisions were made, and we want to use a custom report for this.""It sometimes does get false positives. Sometimes, it'll move something when it really wasn't a performance metric. I've seen it do that, but it's pretty much an automated tool for performance. We've only got about 500 virtual machines, so lots of times, I'm able to manage it physically, but it's definitely a nice tool for a larger enterprise that might be managing 2,000 or 3,000 virtual machines.""They have a long road map when we ask for certain things that will make the product better. It takes time, but that's understandable because there are other things that are higher on the priority list.""The management interface seems to be designed for high-resolution screens. Somebody with a smaller-resolution screen might not like the web interface. I run a 4K monitor on it, so everything fits on the screen. With a lower resolution like 1080, you need to scroll a lot. Everything is in smaller windows. It doesn't seem to be designed for smaller screens.""Recovering resources when they're not needed is not as optimized as it could be.""In Azure, it's not what you're using. You purchase the whole 8 TB disk and you pay for it. It doesn't matter how much you're using. So something that I've asked for from Turbonomic is recommendations based on disk utilization. In the example of the 8 TB disk where only 200 GBs are being used, based on the history, there should be a recommendation like, "You can safely use a 500 GB disk." That would create a lot of savings."

"It is essential to clarify that this isn't necessarily a drawback of the service, but having a clear and concise set of predefined guidelines from AWS for moving existing accounts under AWS Control Tower would be highly beneficial as it would simplify the process and make it more user-friendly.""While using the solution recently, it broke a certain activity. So, AWS Control Tower needs to consider making the solution better.""The product's affordability depends on the value it brings to specific organizations.""There aren't any additional features that I feel are missing. However, it's worth noting that Control Tower seems to function as a layer utilizing standard AWS products in the background. Occasionally, the interface may appear less streamlined, with changes in layout based on the underlying products being used. While this doesn't impact functionality, having a more standardized user interface, irrespective of the background products, could enhance the user experience.""The tool's setup is very technical. Its pricing can be cheaper.""The integration with other AWS functions has room for improvement.""The process of closing an AWS account using Control Tower needs improvements to simplify it, especially when managing multiple accounts.""It could be improved by having a more intuitive graphical interface. It could also include other coding languages like PowerShell and Python, as it would be beneficial for DevOps recommendations."

More AWS Control Tower Cons →

"The product does have room for improvement in patch management.""The response time of the solution's technical support team is too long and should be improved.""There is a lot of information required to deal with the vulnerabilities in the product on a timely basis, for which the documentation part is not available.""The initial setup depends on your experience. For example, for people who are doing it for the first time, it's probably difficult.""They need to simplify it and make it lighter.""While entering the database, there is some delay in viewing the data on the page called SQL monitoring, which reviews live statistics about the current and live queries on the database.""The only negative thing about this product is that it doesn't support all environments or all applications.""Sometimes the alerts are coming a bit late, for example, an alert for the CPU. It depends on the threshold that you have, how long you want to check the CPU of the machine. I got some faulty alerts with Data Guard. I had stopped a synchronization for maintenance and then I re-synchronized Oracle Data Guard. It took some time to appear in Enterprise Manager and send me the right notification that Data Guard was up and running and synchronizing. I realized this because I went directly into the database to check the status of Data Guard, and it was telling me that it was running okay. But in Enterprise Manager, it needed some more time to update the interface."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We felt the pricing was very fair for the product. It is in no way prohibitive for larger deployments, unlike other similar product on the market."
