We performed a comparison between Dell Avamar and NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Veeam Software, Zerto, Commvault and others in Backup and Recovery."All the features in the system are highly valuable."
"We have seen huge data reduction and data deduplication and compression, which is very cost-effective and cost-reducing for the company."
"The solution is easy to use and has high performance."
"It is a very complete product."
"Duplication and the speed of backup are great."
"The stability of Dell EMC Avamar is very good."
"I think the brand is very good. Support is also very nice for end users and integration with EMC products for businesses."
"It was very simple to deploy the solution to the client that you wanted to backup."
"If you have a larger amount of data than normal in cloud, it is easy to provision and maintain. Waiting for the delivery of the controller, the configuration of enclosures, etc., all this stuff is eliminated compared to using on-premise."
"NetApp's Cloud Manager automation capabilities are very good because it's REST-API-driven, so we can completely automate everything. It has a good overview if you want to just have a look into your environment as well."
"The solution’s unified file and block-storage access across our infrastructure is invaluable. Without it, we can't do what we do."
"The most valuable feature is its exceptional performance and storage efficiency."
"If you have a fair amount of experience with NetApp, you can work on it very easily."
"SnapMirror helps mirror metadata and data volumes between endpoints in a data fabric."
"The most valuable features are tiering to S3 and being able to turn it on and off, based on a schedule."
"It makes sure we have control of the data and that we know what it's being used for. The main thing for us is that we need to know what applications are consuming it and responsible for it. The solution helps us do that."
"I want to see a more user-friendly and administrator-friendly Dell Avamar. The solution also needs a better UI and dashboard."
"The product could offer more integration capabilities."
"This solution could improve by introducing daily verifications and another repository."
"There are limitations when trying to use this solution with Hyper-V."
"It lacks support for certain plugins, like SAP HANA, for example."
"I would like to see better integration with third-party applications and platforms."
"If there is a need to move the data from one backup solution to another, it might be difficult since there is no option for a straightforward migration."
"EMC has discontinued their Avamar hardware version. They only advertise the Avamar virtual edition."
"The only issue we had lately was that outside our VPC we could not reach the virtual IP, the floating IP. I heard that they have fixed that..."
"I would like some more performance matrices to know what it is doing. It has some matrices inherent to the Cloud Volumes ONTAP. But inside Cloud Manager, it would also be nice to see. You can have a little Snapshot, then drill down if you go a little deeper."
"The solution could be better when we're connecting to our S3 side of the house. Right now, it doesn't see it, and I'm not sure why."
"If they could include clustering together multiple physical Cloud Volumes ONTAP devices as an option, that could be helpful."
"Cloud Volumes ONTAP's interface could use an overhaul. Sometimes you have to dig around in Cloud Manager a little bit to find certain things. The layout could be more intuitive."
"I would like to see them improve the perspective of start and search in the panels. This would allow for better visualization of the contents that are captured in the tool."
"How it handles erasure coding. I feel it the improvement should be there. Basically, it should be seamless. You don't want to have an underlying hardware issue or something, then suddenly there's no reads or writes. Luckily, it's at a replication site, so our main production site is still working and writing to it. But, the replication site has stopped right now while we try to bring that node back. Since we implemented in bare-metal, not in appliance, we had to go back to the original vendor. They didn't send it in time, and we had a hardware memory issue. Then, we had a hard disk issue, which brought the node down physically."
"I would like this solution to be brought to all the three major players. Right now it's supported only on AWS and Azure. They should bring it to Google as well, because we would like to have flexibility in choosing the underlying cloud storage provider."
