Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The customer likes it for the graphs, the dynamics and the reporting functionality it offers.""The most valuable feature of this solution is application control.""I like the tool's controller facility.""I like the product's asset management which gives clear hardware details.""From a scalability perspective, I found the solution to be completely fine...The solution's technical support is absolutely fine.""I am very comfortable with it, including it's reporting on threats and through its activities.""The documentation has been satisfactory.""It does a little bit better than some of the other products health-wise and updates-wise. It is really clear that a firewall is getting the signature updates in this timeframe. In some of the other products, usually, you have to go a couple of screens in to see that, but not so much in this product."

"For me, the most valuable feature of vROps is its reporting. We use the reports to send information to certain groups within our company to help forecast the use of resources.""It allows us better visibility into our virtual infrastructure than we could get through vCenter or other tools by providing us a lot of metrics. vROps is good at spotting problems.""The initial setup is very straightforward. It is very intuitive to install.""The capacity planning is one of the most valuable features. That is brilliant.""We do not have any problems with the product. It solves our problems. We now know if something is on the console and if there really is a problem. Before this, we had a lot of false positives. It digs into the problems and then at the end it just drops it.""It has helped us with troubleshooting key points of our environment. If there are issues that come up, we can dig down to a virtual machine and see if it's having issues and where those issues lie: if it needs more memory, CPU, or if there is a storage issue.""The solution is intuitive and user-friendly. The UI is nice, it's really simple to use. Building out reports is very simple.""In the process of doing benchmark performance analysis, instead of going into PowerShell or the VMware or CLI, we're able to have vRealize provide that GUI that gives us that information up front, without the delay of scripting it."

Cons
"Fingerprint access security would improve this solution.""It's useful for us but if it had more educational reporting, it would good. It's not necessarily lacking but it's an area that could get better.""Fortinet FortiPortal could improve by providing a learning portal and better security.""The product must have in-built SD-WAN connectivity.""The tool should provide a 10-15 days extension for customers when their license expires.""If you are a very small company or a person on your own, it's harder to get any response from technical support.""There can be defects in Fortinet FortiPortal when functioning at high temperatures.""I find their logging a little bit trickier to manage. The logging of events is broken up into a lot of different categories. Instead of breaking up my logs into several different places, I personally like to have all the events in one spot and then filter them down. In particular, I find that troubleshooting on Fortinet takes a little bit longer just because of those functional breakups in the logs."

More Fortinet FortiPortal Cons →

"A reporting engine would be good, where the database could dump into something like Splunk integration, so we could write our own reports.""If I put on the hat of a client, I would say cost needs improvement. For clients with reasonable-sized infrastructure farms, you're looking at licensing at either per socket or per VM, and if you have an installation of any size, you're doing it per socket, and the per-socket licensing is a little heavy. Per VM license, if they have large numbers of VM, it is just not practical.""The product's support services need improvement.""I'd like to see more out-of-the-box dashboards and less customizing of the environment. The interface could be more streamlined. There are still a lot of old dashboards versus the new UI dashboards.""If I could integrate with vCenter with vROps, then I could execute more things by managing vSphere from within vROps. That would be great.""When you are at your lowest, support is pretty bad. They ask you dumb questions but when you come to second and upper service desk, it is much easier and much better to talk to and resolve the issue.""compare-to-competition; We had a lot of homegrown solutions and different products. We have Splunk, we're using Tableau, different reporting services that were based on gathering our own data, power CLI scripts, going out and individually running things against vCenters, pulling them back in, and then dumping them into something centrally that we could view for capacity. But it really was point-in-time, it wasn't real-time, it wasn't something that could even be predictive for us. We would look at it and say, "Well, that looked different last month so let me go look and see why," and then it was a lot more time-consuming to go about that method. It was more of a manual method. vROps is a tool that gathers that data every five minutes, or whatever the time duration is that you have set for collections. We're more up to the minute, more quick to respond. I think it's a smarter product than homegrown stuff. That's why we moved away from the homegrown stuff.""We do not find this solution to be user-friendly. There's still a lot of work that needs to be done and a lot of work has to go into getting the graphs right. It's not a "plug and play" type of thing. You really have to put in a lot of work. You always have to be aware of what's going on within the machines. It needs to be improved from end-to-end."
