We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product is stable.""eSight allows me to monitor and solve any problem in the backbone and any switch in real-time.""Huawei eSight provides businesses with monitoring capabilities of network devices across your network.""We use Huawei eSight to monitor devices like Wi-Fi controllers, LAN switches, and routers.""We can scale the solution.""The most important features are alarm management and the visualization of the health of our network devices.""I like that it supports all our Huawei devices. Unlike other network monitoring tools that monitor Huawei devices, it provides more details when it comes to monitoring or management. We can get complete details about the devices, and management is also simple.""I like the real-time location monitor or RTLS feature. It is similar to the monitoring feature in Cisco Prime."

"The ability to use the natural language query and see the visualization is quickly intuitive, and it works very well.""The most valuable features are the packet trace flow and that the view of the whole environment is deep.""The solution has helped improve our organization by directing the network traffic using SDN.""It allows you to see traffic that you couldn't otherwise see, which is traffic within your Layer 3-bounded network, meaning east-west traffic. It's hard to get that any other way.""The tool's ease of configuration and use and the availability of information and artifacts through professional services and the web are key factors that customers find valuable.""As a troubleshooting tool, it's a level-3 troubleshooting-skills tool and it's very easy to use and very easy to find the information that you need.""The solution helps reduce time to value, increase performance, provide deep visibility, and easily manage networks.""The most valuable feature is being able to easily see the path that the VM traffic is taking, what ports are in use."

Cons
"eSight has many features and options, but sometimes, we feel that it should be more advanced, like Cisco. It would be good if they can enable some automation part in eSight. Most of our customers want automation in their network. They don't want a dependency on everything. That's why the automation part must be improved in Huawei. It will be beneficial for customers. Cisco has different products, and there are multiple products for monitoring, automation, etc. In the software-defined network, Cisco has ACI, and VMware has NSX. Such options must be there in Huawei to move to a software-defined network. Unlike Cisco, in the case of eSight, there is only one product. I am not aware of any other product. It would be good to enhance it with at least some automation options so that we can use it effectively in the campus network or big data center environment. When I implemented this Huawei solution, I faced some limitations in particular areas like wireless scanning. This is another part that they can improve. Wireless reporting option is not as effective as other monitoring solutions. For a particular use case, if a customer is asking for some reports, sometimes they are not 100% satisfactory. The reporting structure must be improved.""The solution needs to improve it's user interface to make it more modern and stylish. They need to design proper menu positions, features, etc. Right now the layout is complicated.""The price could be less costly.""It is not a very flexible product.""Something that could be improved is the lack of integration with Cisco switches. In the next release, I would like to see better reporting.""It will be better if they can make the simple network topology part more presentable. It would also be better if they had API integration and integration with third-party devices.""The solution and the operating system come separately. It would be easier if we did not have to deploy anything. A bundle feature would be better.""This solution could be improved by offering monitoring for all devices and not only Huawei devices."

"I'd like to see better support for being able to search the hardware NetFlow data. It ingests fairly well, but you can't tell, in a lot of cases, what source the data came from. I'd like to see more support for picking specific sources. That way you could really make a compelling use case. There are also some difficulties where it can't exactly trace the path between source and destination but if you hit the reverse flow on the same search it shows the entire path.""While it's not exactly a feature, what normally happens when we are trying to look at the VM flow portion is - although Network Insight does have options to integrate a few physical switches into it - we can't really get an end-to-end flow of the network. We might be using a few switches that are not supported by Network Insight. That is where they can improve, in the support for more physical switches and network devices.""I want to be able to monitor a network flow that is approximately two weeks back, but I haven't found an easy way to do this.""It needs to be a little easier to use and to understand the information it's putting out. That would make it more helpful. If you're not a network person you need to understand things like network policies and concepts. If you gave it to a regular admin, it would be nice if it were easier for them to pick up what is going on, understand the flows and whether or not stuff should be talking to each other, as opposed to just port groups and IP addresses.""vRNI needs more remediation where it hooks into NSX.""The only real improvement they can make is to add more third-party vendors into the environment, mostly switch manufacturers, because it's really limited to Cisco equipment and there are a lot of companies out there other than Cisco.""When we talk about those micro-segmentation rules, there's an Export function. It is very macro-segmentation oriented instead. So if you choose an application, it will find the tiers within that application and say that it's communicating on, say, port 80 to a separate VLAN. There might be 200 machines in that other VLAN. You don't want to open port 80 at all of them. So we need a lot more granularity in those suggested firewall rules.""There's enough information there, especially in the visualizations, but I would love to see this in a kiosk mode, where I could have a dashboard for interested stakeholders to see and appreciate what's going on. Then, moving on to a more practical level for our Help Desk, our operations team could benefit by seeing, in real-time, a visual view of the network."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Its pricing is better than any other Huawei product. Some products are cheaper in Huawei, and some products are cheaper in Cisco. Cisco has more benefits and options than Huawei if you consider different network environments."
  • "Pricing depends on the competition. If your competitor is like Cisco, then Huawei is much more competitive when it comes to pricing."
  • "The price is very expensive."
  • "I would rate this solution a nine out of ten for pricing. The pricing depends on which features you use and can become expensive."

  • "The solution has helped us to reduce time, increase performance, reduce costs, and even easily manage networks. We are probably seeing 10 to 20 percent labor savings because we are able to be very specific and focused on what we want to do. It ends up saving the customer money and makes us be more efficient on our cost deliveries."
  • "It reduces costs. It takes something that may be challenging and makes it more usable and visual by being able to bring in tools, seeing what their impact is, such as microsegmentation and application rationalization, and seeing it quickly."
  • "Cost always has room for improvement, you could always make it cheaper. But I think it's a good value for what you pay for it."
  • "It's an expensive product because we have a lot of nodes."
  • "They should include the product in NSX because it's important to have it for deployment."
  • "The solution has reduced the time that we spend on other products. For example, with NSX, we were able to quickly find things that we would normally spend days trying to figure out."
  • "We have spent less time investigating network flows, so it is absolutely cost-effective."
  • "It has brought more money into our company."
