We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The comprehensiveness of this solution's collection of network performance and flow data is one of the basics in the field for what it does. It meets all of our needs. So for all those areas, for the most straightforward collection capabilities, right up to NetFlow and even telemetry, it meets all those demands. Not only just basic or fundamental SNMP collection capability, but the product also supports what we need for the future with telemetry streaming. So it's very comprehensive.""Flexible architecture: You can extend the system and its capacity by attaching another cluster pair.""Scalability. I have never had to worry about how to handle really big environments.""We've had great feedback from our customers about SevOne support. They're willing to set up a remote session upon request. You have to go through three tiers of support with most vendors, and they ask a lot of screening questions before they will do a remote session. You need to spend a lot of time before an engineer will host a remote session to look at your problematic system.""It's a great solution for highlighting and discovering useful information regarding our network's elements.""The most valuable feature is the NMS because that's the core of the system. Without the NMS, the other tools aren't that usable.""The most valuable feature as of late has been the API integration with ServiceNow.""The monitoring of the network is very customizable. That is its unique feature."

"It is a comprehensive, end-to-end solution for managing database consolidation, something that has been missing and difficult to do.""The dashboards are great for gathering analytic information and seeing where the problems are.""The most valuable feature is the monitoring because it's very useful for checking and troubleshooting compared with other products, like Nagios for example, that have some interaction with Oracle.""What I like most about Oracle Enterprise Manager are its features, particularly the active session history. It provides insights into SQL, and I use it regularly to identify potential issues.""The tried and tested services that Oracle provides is second to none.""This solution allows us to quickly drill down when there are issues.""With ASH Analytics, ADDM, Real-Time SQL Monitoring, SQL Tuning Advisor, we can measure SLAs, detect performance hotspots, perform deep diagnostics into specific tiers, tune applications, and remediate.""Oracle Enterprise Manager has eased the responsibilities among our DBAs. We can now assign individual tasks to separate DBAs."

Cons
"The reports are easy to configure but they are a bit outdated in terms of appearance and visualization.""The one area with room for improvement is probably administration. They added data insights to make a better user experience, but I'd like to see some improvements in the way the system's administered.""The method of searching for SIP and the way to create the groups.""SevOne should work with the graphs legend functionality.""Their virtualization solution is not compatible with our Kubernetes environment, which is one of the reasons we are ending our relationship with them.""User-friendly, multi-tenancy.""With the administrative management of the appliance, if some object appears from SevOne because something changed in the network or whatever, then as an administrator you will not be aware. If you are using this object in a report, this object will disappear from the report and you will not be aware of it. So, if you have 1,000 reports, you cannot always check these reports everyday to see if objects are missing or information has disappeared. We don't have any information on alerts, saying that something is happening there and maybe we need to take action. If an object was replaced by another one, or if a link was replaced by another one, then the graph needs to be changed because it doesn't exist in the graph anymore. However, we don't have this information.""We previously have had discussions on some reporting enhancements. So, we raised a feature request, which was delivered from SevOne."

More IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) Cons →

"We would like to have a single dashboard for monitoring and controlling all of our products.""The solution’s pricing could be improved.""I rate Oracle Enterprise Manager six out of 10 for affordability. It's expensive.""Improving the integration speed would be beneficial, as the current Java-based system can sometimes result in slow responses.""I would like to improve the cost.""Patching. It's extremely difficult to determine what requires patching and the process to patch each component is slightly different.""We have encountered performance issues when the load is huge.""It is complicated to run it on Google Chrome."

  • "The pricing has not evolved with the market, which is one of the reasons we are moving to a new product."

  • "As with all Oracle products, care should be taken when using any features to ensure that they do not activate licensed features that have not been paid for."
  • "The basic functions are free. You only pay license fees for advanced features."
  • "The pricing is very high."
  • "We are satisfied with the pricing."
  • "There is only the standard licensing fee. There are no other costs."

Top Answer:SevOne could improve its flexibility because it isn't fully customizable and its out-of-the-box configuration doesn't cover all use cases.
Top Answer:What I like most about Oracle Enterprise Manager are its features, particularly the active session history. It provides insights into SQL, and I use it regularly to identify potential issues.
Top Answer:As far as I know, you do not pay for Oracle Enterprise Manager separately. You can use Enterprise Manager for free if you already have an Oracle license for your database.

    Reviews from Real Users

Oracle Enterprise Manager stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its central management and monitoring and its reporting capabilities

Robin C., head of Oracle Exadata Centre of Excellence at Tata Consultancy Services, writes, "The database performance monitoring features are very useful and allow us to quickly zero in on DB-related issues. Exadata storage server and Infiniband switches can be viewed from the GUI in OEM which cannot be done in other tools. The ability to deploy metric extensions makes this tool extensible for our custom monitoring also."

PeerSpot users note the effectiveness of these features. A database manager at a tech services company notes, “The solution's most valuable aspect is the fact that it is embedded with the Oracle database and Oracle's engineering system, its extra data, and analytics.  They have plug-ins that are very helpful. Due to the infrastructure's size, the introduction they offer is very, very useful. It helps with an overall understanding of the product. They have a very nice graphical user interface. The monitoring is good. We can capture the SQL tune from us. With Oracle Enterprise Managers, we can see the rich performance tuning.”
