We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I have found the consolidation of the business and group reports very useful. There is plenty of features and the manufacturing and finance aspect of the solution are strong.""The most valuable features of SAP Business ByDesign are customer invoicing and cost and revenue, from which I get the data for my project reports.""ByDesign's best features are its speed, real-time data, and reporting.""The most valuable feature of SAP Business ByDesign is it has a streamlined design.""The standard system is stable.""It has a quick implementation and onboarding of users. It is flexible with reports and powerful.""When we were using it, we did see an immediate benefit, especially in the inventory on consignment issue. We were a biotech pre-revenue company and most of our manufacturing was outsourced. So being able to track inventory within the system without creating a financial impact was very key for us.""I like its modern approach. It is very modern and new technology."

"I come from a functional consultancy background, and S/4HANA provides excellent procurement solutions for inventory management. One of S/4HANA's best features in the manufacturing module is the ability to calculate product costs.""The most valuable aspect of SAP S/4HANA Cloud is its ease of deployment and the reduced hassles of infrastructure support.""The most valuable feature of SAP S/4HANA Cloud is the new UX design.""It is good in data analytics and helps in data analytics.""The manufacturing area is a good feature.""The solution links everything and allows us to integrate into our entire supply chain.""The most valuable features of SAP S/4HANA Cloud are the ease of use from the cloud, CapEx analysis report, and everything being connected together well.""Makes it easier to reach and read data."

Cons
"The Arabic localization is neglected. It should have an Arabic interface. It lacks Arabic translation or support from right to left.""I would say budget controlling needs improvement. I mention this because it does not have all the functionalities that we need in terms of managing the budget.""The Purchase to Pay process could benefit from further sophistication and additional functionality. It would be helpful for the user community to receive clearer information about the future roadmap of the business. Unfortunately, there were some confusing articles in the German press towards the end of last year about the future of SAP Business ByDesign. Therefore, more clarity is needed in the support function to address this.""The database needs to be more customizable.""SAP Business ByDesign is a very vast product, but it has to be a bit more centralized. All the models need to be more centralized for a better experience.""The payroll module of the solution could improve.""ByDesign could be improved by making screen modifications easier.""With SAP S/4HANA, you can design your release strategy and modify it to include as many people as possible, which is missing in SAP Business ByDesign."

More SAP Business ByDesign Cons →

"SAP promotes the cloud, but customers are worried about the security of their data. SAP suggests they have SAP S4HANA with RISE, which is a private cloud environment, but it is difficult to sell many of the customers on the cloud concept because of the privacy issues.""The solution could improve by adding a planning model, such as BPC. Additionally, if we need to make changes in the profit center it has to be done manually. It is not connected to the cost center.""The only thing that could be improved would be the complexity of the initial setup.""UX design is not flexible and lacks compatibility with mobile devices.""I need more options for enhancing the system, especially compared to the features available in the on-premise version.""SAP S4HANA Cloud's production planning screens could be improved.""Customer service and support's response time is really long.""It is a complicated solution. So it should be easier to use."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price of the solution could be better. They have to come up with a new strategy."
  • "We have to pay yearly."

  • "The cost starts anywhere between fifty thousand dollars and up depending on the number of licenses."
  • "The price of SAP Business ByDesign is less expensive than SAP S/4HANA. However, the price is on par with other similar competitors, such as Microsoft."
  • "I rate the price of SAP Business ByDesign a seven out of ten."

  • "The pricing is competitive with other products at that level in that category."
  • "I feel the solution is expensive when it comes to what can be obtained with open source software."
  • "This is a pricey solution that best serves large enterprises. Be sure to ensure that your company's requirements need to be fulfilled by SAP. There are many other ERP's that are cheaper yet highly functional. However, it is still cheaper than some of the competition (i.e. Oracle, ESD, etc.)"
  • "I don't remember the specifics about the licensing, but it's scaled and modular. You pay for what you use. It's not a one-size-fits-all license. You have a license for every single module. It's similar to Oracle."
  • "The licensing process for SAP S/4HANA Cloud has worked well."
  • "It's very expensive."
  • "Pricing wise, SAP S4HANA Cloud is very expensive. The licensing cost can be 100,000 euros per year, depending on the number of users in your company."
  • "S/4HANA is an enterprise solution that many can't afford. You must invest a lot to get the most out of it. It isn't cheap. I rate the price seven out of 10."

The main difference is RISE is associated with S/4 Product Range on Cloud while By Design is modeled after SAP Business One also on Cloud.

So both are SaaS but the difference is in enterprise size and also application complexities. Also, RISE offers a bundle of pre-configured modules while By Design is similar to B1 with a lot more flexibility and high scalability. License wise both are per user on the cloud.
