We performed a comparison between Azure Monitor and AppDynamics based on real PeerSpot user reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Azure Monitor is the recommended choice over AppDynamics due to its cost-effectiveness, seamless integration with Microsoft technologies, and customizable out-of-the-box functionalities. AppDynamics, while offering various valuable features, is pricey, has a steep learning curve, and lacks a satisfactory end-user experience. Azure Monitor is praised for its application insights, troubleshooting capabilities, ease of configuration and maintenance, and proactive infrastructure information, resulting in a positive ROI.
"The monitoring is similar to Dynatrace."
"Autodiscovery of application topology, based on real user traffic."
"After we implemented this solution, we can easily determine the root cause of issues."
"It is used to test customer behavior on a website."
"This is a stable product and we definitely plan to continue using it in the future."
"The most valuable feature of AppDynamics is that you can easily determine the load on the application."
"I like how the AppDynamics dashboard portrays the information flows. When a task is executed, various flows between different applications and databases happen in the background. The dashboard is intuitive and helps visualize the connections, the directions of the flow, and the information related to these specific sessions."
"I find troubleshooting is quicker because we can drill down into the end points and see which endpoints are getting critical. Visibility-wise, the micro details are easy to find."
"Good load and metrics gathering and very good analysis."
"For me, the best feature is the log analysis with Azure Monitor's Log Analytics. Without being able to analyze the logs of all the activities that affect the performance of a machine, your monitoring effectiveness will be severely limited."
"Technical support is helpful."
"The solution very easily integrates with Azure services and in one click you can monitor your resource."
"The most valuable feature is that it's stable. It hasn't crossed any thresholds."
"The solution's most valuable features are its ability to focus on delivery and maximizing the performance of applications and services."
"The most valuable features of Azure Monitor are the login analytics workspace and we can write any kind of custom queries in order to receive the data that is inserted into the login analytics workspace, diagnostic settings, et cetera."
"Azure Monitor gives us the observability to check everything that we have in the cloud."
"It would help to maybe have a more graphical interface and more user-friendly graphics."
"I would like them to change their business model for scalability to accommodate growing companies. The business model should be more flexible."
"Their support should be improved. Clusters and monitoring can also be improved."
"The solution could be more user-friendly for diagnostic purposes. Anyone who is using the solution should be able to infer what that error is about, they should be able to troubleshoot it better."
"The QA and test environment need improvement."
"The integration ability of AppDynamics with other performance testing tools is an area with shortcomings where improvements are required."
"The integration part in AppDynamics with other systems is an area with a little difficulty, especially when it comes to the configuration area. The integration of AppDynamics with other products takes a lot of time."
"An area that has room for improvement on the CR and ERP would be the addition of monitoring of the internal solution. For example, you can monitor the day-to-day and everything in the transactions with AppDynamics, but there's also a lot going on in the kernel itself that you cannot monitor. The automation needs to improve as well. As it stands, a lot of customization needs to happen before you can use AppDynamics."
"They should include advanced logging on the database level in the Azure pool."
"The length of latency is terrible and needs to be improved."
"The troubleshooting logs need improvement. There should be some improvement there. I have a hard time finding the right logs at the right times whenever there is an issue occurring."
"It might not have all of the capabilities we will need."
"They need to work on a more hybrid deployment that will allow us to monitor local on-premise deployments and connect to different systems. I would like to see more integration."
"The solution's monitoring feature has limitations for analyzing multiple metrics."
"When something goes down, we want the option to have automation in place to get it back up again as quickly as possible."
"There are a lot of things that take more time to do, such as charting, alerting, and correlation of data, and things like that. Azure Monitor doesn't tell you why something happened. It just tells you that it happened. It should also have some type of AI. Environments and applications are becoming more and more complex every day with hundreds or thousands of microservices. Therefore, having to do a lot of the stuff manually takes a lot of time, and on top of that, troubleshooting issues takes a lot of time. The traditional method of troubleshooting doesn't really work for or apply to this environment we're in. So, having an AI-based system and the ability to automate deployments of your monitoring and configurations makes it much easier."
