We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The initial setup is one of the most user-friendly B2B user solutions. It's good, it's easy. Deployment usually takes less than one day. You only need one person for deployment and maintenance.""The implementation is straightforward.""We also really benefit from the GUI capabilities.""It is very easy to implement.""I think StoreOnce's deduplication technology is crucial for cost efficiency and faster recovery, especially for backup and data protection purposes.""The interface is very user-friendly.""The most valuable features are the deduplication and compression capabilities.""HPE StoreOnce works well, it is stable."

"If you have an idea of what you are doing, it's very flexible and very stable.""The feature that was most valuable was that we could restore one mailbox and we could do different backups for different databases.""The tool's most valuable aspect is its ease of management. It was not complex. In terms of features, I can mention a couple of things. For example, if you need to restore a VM, you can do it with multiple streams in OpenText Data Protector, which is an advantage over Commvault, from what I've noticed, having worked with multiple tools. Another thing is the Oracle backups; configuring Oracle backups is much easier in OpenText Data Protector.""The most valuable features of this solution were the features we worked most with which were telemetry, and the scheduler.""It works excellently only with Oracle.""Deduplication implementation with CAPA is very good.""Regarding scalability, it's unlimited with Data Protector. You can link multiple installations and let them work together. They can share backup devices. You have many possibilities with Data Protector. It's very proficient.""The reliability of HP Data Protector is the most valuable feature for us."

Cons
"The solution should continue to refine its integration capabilities. I also see they are starting to use cloud integration as well, which is good, but they should do more to integrate with it.""I would like to see better integration with Veeam software.""HPE StoreOnce Backup to Disk (BTD) is not a good backup solution for NAS devices. It does not have a dual controller, so if one controller fails, the entire system will go down.""HPE StoreOnce needs to provide a SaaS solution by offering high-density disks.""The user interface of HPE StoreOnce is an area of concern where improvements are required.""When it comes to upgrading, it always goes block-wise. One block is 48 TB raw capacity. It would be good if they can include a smaller capacity for SMB customers. Currently, it is not possible to increase in a smaller capacity. You have to buy the exact same unit. It would be great if they can provide a smaller next block. There are around 20 hard disks, and it would be really helpful if we can add 10 hard disks initially and 10 hard disks later.""HPE should have more options so customers can choose from a wide range of products with small to big capacities.""The user interface of HPE StoreOnce should be more user-friendly. Additionally, the configuration and troubleshooting could be better."

More HPE StoreOnce Cons →

"The graphical interface needs to be improved.""The scheduler setup could be better. We are facing some issues scheduling the job based on our requirements.""Other tools seem to be easier to use.""In general, you can say that Micro Focus Data Protector is behind in capabilities when compared with other backup solutions, such as Commvault, Symantec, NetBackup, but it is very strong for certain use cases such as array integration. We are using it in production even now. There should be some kind of cloud integration and archiving solutions. I think this is the area they need to focus on.""I would like to see a better user interface in the next release.""The product can be developed by including functionalities like DR, CDP, and SureBackup, which are currently unavailable in the solution.""Micro Focus are improving Data Protector with every new version and since we began undergoing training with the latest version we have not faced any real challenges yet. However, their support does need to be improved, in my opinion. In certain critical cases that we've had, they did not provide a satisfactory level of support.""The challenge is that we can't restore a single file from the VM in the data process when we do VM backups. But with Commvault, you can restore a single file even if you have a VM snapshot package. That's one drawback of this tool. When we do VM backups, it should help us browse the VMs to restore a single file instead of doing the complete VM restore."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
  • "To be honest, we were quite happy with the price, but we always want things cheaper than they are. I think for what we got, we felt that the price was quite reasonable comparing it to other products that provide that same level of functionality."
  • "There are costs for additional storage and space."
  • "Price-wise, it comes with a high price tag when compared to other products."
  • "The cost of HPE StoreOnce is very expensive."
  • "We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
  • "The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
  • "I think the product is competitive in terms of pricing. Other products like the one from Dell are costlier compared to the tool."

  • "Pricing/licensing is Data Protector's single best offering. In its most basic environment, the only license required is for whatever target device is required."
  • "The licensing structure provides cost savings to business."
  • "It is fast, reliable, and its licensing policy is great."
  • "Avoid using many LTO drives; when using fewer drives, the price will be extremely good."
  • "In Data Protector, if you need extra features, you need to buy the agents for these features. Some of the features are Terabytes, some of them are agents. There's some complexity in the pricing and licensing."
  • "The licensing cost was not annual. We didn't pay any license. We paid when we deployed and we didn't pay for anything after that. There were no additional fees after the initial payment."
  • "The pricing is around $3,000 to $5,000. The charge additionally for support and to scale."
  • "The solution requires paying for a license."
