We performed a comparison between Sophos XG and Untangle Ng Firewall based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Sophos XG’s single pane of glass makes it easy to manage the entire solution and can be done anywhere. Users find that the solution is very light, stable, and provides excellent real-time control. Untangle NG Firewall hardware is not available in all geographic locations, and users say it is not recommended for large enterprise organizations.
"It is easy to use. We chose this product for the possibility to have virtual domains (VDOMs). We are building another company in the group, and we would like to split the firewalling rules and policies between these two companies. Each company would be able to manage its own policies and security rules, which is an advantage of Fortinet FortiGate. We can define VDOMs, and every company can manage its own VDOM as if it has its own physical firewall, but in fact, we would be using the same physical appliance because we are also using the same internet lines. So, it allows us to reuse the existing resources without the disadvantage of having to compromise on policies and security. Each company can choose its own way of working."
"It can expand easily."
"FortiGate is on the cheaper end, and it offers good value."
"It's very easy to set up, it's very easy to make policies and, for an organization, that means you don't need IT expert in firewalls. You just need to have somebody who knows a little bit of IT, and that's it. With other products, you need someone with a "Masters" degree in firewalls."
"The base firewall features are quite valuable to us."
"Mainly the FortiGate reporting system is very good. It guides us through all the expectations of security. Fortinet provides us all that we need for security. Also, Fortinet FortiGate is a next-generation firewall. It is much more advanced than others."
"The virtual firewall feature is the most valuable. We have around 1,500 firewalls. We did not buy individual hardware, and the virtual firewalls made sense because we don't have to keep on buying the hardware. FortiGate is easier to use as compared to Checkpoint devices. It is user friendly and has a good UI. You don't need much expertise to work on this firewall. You don't need to worry much about DCLA, commands, and things like that."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate are the ease of use and the UI. It has always provided me with what I needed. I have no need for additional costs that other solutions have, such as Sophos."
"I have found the solution easy to use and fully integrated."
"The dashboard is customizable as well. It gives you the feature of including what you need to see as soon as you open the dashboard and to remove the non-necessary stuff, which varies from one organization to the next and from one IT manager to the next. And it has a wide variety of reports as well, template and customizable reports."
"I like how you can integrate with other endpoints and Intercept X in one central management platform. I think it's a perfect solution. Sophos will manage everything in one container. You can manage many firewalls or endpoints within one panel."
"The most valuable is the synchronized security between Sophos XG and Sophos endpoint because it provides a lot of visibility about unknown applications. The endpoint shares the information of unknown applications, and you can learn about those applications and create policies to allow or block those applications."
"The most valuable features are its nice interfaces and configuration. The endpoint is also very good."
"Excellent product, meets most of the security needs of companies of various sizes. You can buy it without fear."
"It is feature-rich, I like the server authentication, and the reports are good."
"I have found configuring the ports to be easier in Sophos XG compared to the other devices."
"The product’s most valuable features are endpoint protection management, load balancing, and connectivity with Active Directory."
"All features are useful. We are using premium features such as bandwidth sharing, failover, web filters, SSL controls, antivirus, and VPN. We use these features to the fullest. These features are available in the paid firewall license, not the free one."
"What I like about this product, which is the reason that we continue to use it, is that you can install the software version on your own hardware. In case there is a problem with the hardware, we can just install the firewall in another machine and restore the configuration."
"Web filtering is very reliable."
"Easy to set up and easy to integrate."
"Application Control and filtering features are valuable."
"The majority of our clients are very small businesses, and Untangle devices have been fantastic for these small clients. We've basically standardized our stack to just simply use Untangle. We include the hardware and the service option, which makes it very easy and affordable for us to just simply push that into the monthly per-user costing that we provide as a managed services provider. It's really a no-brainer. They're easy to use, and they're easy to set up and configure. Support is generally good about resolving any issues that we have. We haven't had any real complaints."
"The web blocking for my clients and the application control are valuable."
"I think there could be more QoS features"
"The solution is very expensive."
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve the user interface. There should be more functionality and options through the GUI."
"The process of configuring firewall rules appears excessively complex."
"There can be more security in hybrid implementations. When a customer has a hybrid environment where some parts are in the cloud, we need a consistent security solution for such scenarios."
"The solution's framework needs to be frequently updated in order to have a stable solution."
"The Web-filter in this solution is not very good."
"Vulnerability scanning could be improved."
"The program is rather expensive."
"I think that the main area for improvement is the quality assurance of the updates."
"Technical support could be improved. They aren't as responsive as they could be."
"It could offer a DNS Filter for blocking botnet networks."
"Inability to investigate incidents, there is no tracking."
"It would be great if the user can have a portal to check on activities related to their account."
"Sophos can improve the debugging of the WAPS function."
"Sophos XG could improve by coming out with more innovative feature developments."
"It would be much easier if there was a mobile app."
"They don't have any feature that allows you to drop the session."
"The ability to setup a DDNS for each WAN independently would be a very handy feature."
"We have a minor issue when assigning IP addresses in the ARP tables. You should be able to go into the ARP tables, look at the IP address and say, "Nope, they need to be on this side on this IP address." The ability to set a DHP reservation from the ARP tables would be great. It's no big deal, but it would be nice to have."
"The storage is minimal, so we have to set the system to delete data after seven days."
"The product needs to improve its mobile application."
"On their low-end appliance, they could have more memory and the largest storage space. The low-end appliance comes with a too-small hard drive, and it could use a little extra room. It only comes with about 4 gigs or 8 gigs of memory, and the hardware space is only 40 gigs, which is really small."
"It does have multi-factor authentication in some areas, but I would love to see a more widely implemented version of that on the devices themselves."
