Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution's SQL cloning is great, and its Instant Mount restoration of virtual machines is brilliant.""The restores are easy to do and have made it so that we can incorporate restores into our troubleshooting processes.""I found value in the instant recovery with DataMove. I found value in the protection group model for applying policies to VMs. And in the overall UI navigation and the way that the application is laid out in the web browser.""Its most valuable feature is its ransomware protection, so it has immutable backups.""It is also very easy to determine which VMs are being backed up and which ones aren't. This is helpful to make sure nothing is being missed.""It makes our administrators' lives much easier to combine backup, archiving, and services like hosting file shares in one central system with only one user interface.""We are happy with the support provided by Cohesity for the issues we've come across.""Cohesity DataProtect is easily manageable, and you can see every option from the user interface."

"Technical support is very good. If at any time we write a ticket, we get the appropriate answer on time.""Another valuable feature is the possibility of backing up the database from the standby database instead of the primary database, to avoid backup process overhead in the primary system.""The most valuable feature is the flashback standby, which allows us to test without scrapping the database.""The most valuable features are the backup and restore. With this in place along with the clustering, the database is safe from hacking, hardware failure, power failures, and system crashes.""It is a top-notch product, super stable, making it our go-to for internal operations.""Oracle Data Guard is scalable. I rate it a ten out of ten.""You can see how the logs are applied, check the apply time, and how far behind the standby is at any given time.""The most valuable feature is the application or promotional code used in the production protocol to transfer data to the secondary database, situated on the DR site."

Cons
"Since it is an evolving product, there are lot of frequent releases which require upgrades to be done every other weekend.""Cohesity cluster upgrades have not been as easy as a single button click. They are a manual process that requires upgrading each node into a cluster individually.""I think Cohesity could add more platform support. For example, they could improve integration with DB2 or make the integration S3 object storage a little tighter. Some of that stuff could use some work, but overall, it's a relatively comprehensive platform.""In terms of what could be improved, it just needs some maturity.""Non-cloud services need improvement.""Their documentation could be refined.""We would love to see direct compatibility with HPE Simplivity, which we also leverage.""Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be."

More Cohesity DataProtect Cons →

"The usage of block storage devices in the cloud or migration of a type of storage from one site to another site can be improved. Currently, we have to use multi-node to single node because of the lack of storage support on the Azure side. It did not really work. Our DBA had to spend a lot of time tweaking the Data Guard tools, or the underlying Oracle VMs, to make sure that Data Guard would run on top of different types of storage. So, if it can support transporting or getting from one type of storage to another type of storage in a different site or a different technology, it would be very helpful.""They may need to include the monitoring and the alerting part in Data Guard.""It is a rather complex solution, so it could be more user-friendly.""It is a very useful administrative IT tool. It saves on costs.""The only difficult part is the cost factor, licensing. Another area of improvement is support.""Sometimes, the technical support team takes time to respond.""The product could improve its pricing.""We would like to be able to see the date time stamp when you execute DGMGRL commands."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
  • "If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
  • "The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
  • "Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
  • "We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
  • "With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."

  • "This is the best solution if you want something similar that's less expensive than Oracle Grid."
