We performed a comparison between Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls and Untangle NG Firewall based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Fortinet FortiGate has many valuable features, such as IDS, and intrusion detection. It has security features that are in part with the technologies that are available in the market."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is Quota."
"I like several features that this product has, such as antivirus and internet navigation inspection. It is also simple to use."
"I have found Fortinet FortiGate to be scalable."
"The scalability is good in Fortinet FortiGate."
"The pricing is great and very reasonable."
"It has improved our organization with control data."
"The CLI and GUI do a good job of putting a lot at your fingertips."
"The most valuable aspect of this solution is pre-sales and post-sales because of the support and relationship building."
"The stability of the product has been good over the years."
"It's quite nice. It's very user-friendly, powerful, and there are barely any bugs."
"Application control, IPS, and sandboxing towards the cloud are the most valuable features. It is a very user-friendly product with a very easy-to-use interface."
"The App-ID feature is the coolest feature because you don't need to open a new port. Apps are directly linked to the port. It provides one of the best ways to lock down the additional port switch."
"The solution allows us to set parameters on where our users can go. We can block certain sites or ads if we want to."
"We have not had to replace hardware routers nor purchase additional hardware. So, that has provided a little bit of an ROI."
"You can easily integrate it with Active Directory, and you can use the GlobalProtect VPN for internal and external purposes. The URL Filtering is also clear and the application filtering is a plus. The application filtering is much better when you compare it to FortiGate or other firewall vendors."
"Application Control and filtering features are valuable."
"All features are useful. We are using premium features such as bandwidth sharing, failover, web filters, SSL controls, antivirus, and VPN. We use these features to the fullest. These features are available in the paid firewall license, not the free one."
"Web filtering is very reliable."
"Web Filter is effective, Web Cache offers bandwidth savings, and the VPN setup is easy."
"The most valuable features are IPS, MAPI, NAT, and VPN."
"The product helps small and medium enterprises secure their networks from intrusions. It also has features like DNS blocking."
"The initial setup is very easy."
"It is very easy to deploy and monitor. "
"I would like to see improvements made to the dashboard and UI, as well as to the reporting."
"Improvement is needed in the Web Filter quotas to restrict users with allocated quotas."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a stable solution. However, my issue is the performance only. When I use all the profiles, this affects the performance. From the beginning, I should have had a better sizing of the box."
"The graphical user interface of Fortinet's FortiGate product does not function well with text-based interfaces."
"One of the problems I was having was with user mapping, and it is an issue for which I have escalated tickets with Fortinet support."
"Stability and technical support are the two major issues I have found with Fortinet."
"FortiGate support could do some improvements on their IPv6 configuration. Right now it's still in the very early stage for utilizing in an enterprise level network environment."
"I don't really have anything negative to say as far as Fortinet firewalls are concerned. If anything, they can support a user a little bit better. They can stop being so time-sensitive about how much time the support call has taken, and they can help you do it yourself."
"I would like to see better integration with IoT technologies."
"Its scalability for on-prem deployments can be better. For an on-prem deployment, the hardware has to be replaced if the volume goes up to a certain level."
"The reporting and visibility are phenomenal, but you don't get that information out of the box. They can email reports regularly, and the functionality is all there. However, a lot of it is based on an older model for email, where customers have in-house email servers. The small and medium-sized business customers I deal with are moving toward Office 365 or some other cloud-based mail and not maintaining their own internal mail servers."
"Maybe they could add some tools and more competing services, like servers, but that would increase the cost of the solution."
"Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls don't provide a unified platform that natively integrates all security capabilities. It's missing some features for geofencing and understanding locations."
"The configuration part could be improved. It's very difficult to configure. It doesn't have a user-friendly interface. You have to know Palo Alto deeply to use it."
"I wish that the Palos had better system logging for the hardware itself."
"From a documentation standpoint, there is room for improvement. Even Palo Alto says that their documentation is terrible."
"The web content filtering needs improvement."
"On their low-end appliance, they could have more memory and the largest storage space. The low-end appliance comes with a too-small hard drive, and it could use a little extra room. It only comes with about 4 gigs or 8 gigs of memory, and the hardware space is only 40 gigs, which is really small."
"The hardware can be improved."
"It does have multi-factor authentication in some areas, but I would love to see a more widely implemented version of that on the devices themselves."
"Web-filtering policies could be improved."
"We seek the availability of the hardware in our region. The hardware-based firewall from Untangle is currently not available in our region. It should have threat protection on a real-time basis. This feature, available in Check Point and Sandstorm kind of scenario, is currently missing in Untangle NG Firewall."
"The product needs to have a better support group for its online support, specifically for its help desk."
"We have a minor issue when assigning IP addresses in the ARP tables. You should be able to go into the ARP tables, look at the IP address and say, "Nope, they need to be on this side on this IP address." The ability to set a DHP reservation from the ARP tables would be great. It's no big deal, but it would be nice to have."
