It's easy to extend the stack, but I wish we could do more in the GUI
We use OmniSwitch switches to provide an extra switch for distribution on our local area network I find the CLI hard to use. I wish we could do more in the GUI interface. We started using OmniSwitch in 2018, so it has been about four years. I'm not really the system administrator programming the…

Helps to support clients remotely without onsite visits
In most cases, we advocate for an end-to-end Ubiquiti product solution. This includes using UniFi switches for various purposes, such as wireless controllers, PoE switches, and non-PoE switches. The tool's product lines are good. The management tools, including the web app and mobile application, are easy to use. With them, I can support clients remotely and troubleshoot issues. Checking equipment statistics is simple. This flexibility is great for helping third-party clients. Once installed, it is an "install and forget" device, requiring minimal attention or troubleshooting. I rate the overall product a nine out of ten. I recommend it. Select the model that fits your customer or client requirements, and you're ready. I am involved in the tool's design, implementation, and support.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"OmniSwitch Ethernet Switches' best features are it's easy to deploy, manage, and maintain, with services coming through one vendor."
"This is a dependable switch which will help you sleep at night."
"The solution has a very good web interface. It makes it easy to manage everything."
"The new web graphical interface is much better than before. We now have easy access to the command lines. They're all functional."
"The product is stable. It does have only one power supply. They don't have a redundant power supply."
"It's easy to extend the stack, We don't use the smaller switches, but it's going well for the rest."
"The fibre ports that are 10 Gb capacity helped with the travel of a lot of regular as well as video data. Fibre can handle a lot more virtual data than copper twisted-pair, so we got a lot more data and a lot more traffic signals back through the fibre ports, faster, than with copper."
"We are able to customize this solution based on the customer's requirements."
"Ubiquiti is one step above the consumer level. They cost a little bit more, but they just seem to be drop-dead reliable, and they're keeping up with the latest standards."
"It's very easy to deploy – much easier than MikroTik. It's very seamless and well-designed."
"For the world where you have to balance traffic and traffic loads and bandwidth, their GUI makes it really easy because the switches, though they are enterprise grade level two or level three switches, the GUI is designed so that it's easy to set up VLANs where you need to control your traffic so that your phones don't break up and get choppy because of other people loading the network down too heavily."
"Good price point and very simple to use."
"The two most valuable features are the remote access user and the side-to-side connection."
"I haven't found the cost of the solution to be too high."
"Overall the solution functions very well."
"The most valuable feature of Ubiquiti UniFi Switches is that once you buy them, you own them."

Cons

"technical support response time is sometimes very slow."
"In future versions, I would like to see improvements in networking speed."
"I could see them possibly creating a more intuitive software. It's very user-friendly, but there are some things that aren't very intuitive when programming the switches."
"The network connection should be improved."
"I find the CLI hard to use. I wish we could do more in the GUI interface."
"OmniSwitch Ethernet Switches would be improved if cloud-based technology was provided in the Gulf region."
"There needs to be better integration with the interface."
"The product would be better if it were completely compatible with other switching products."
"We've had issues with the power supply. I've had to change the power supply twice. I'm not sure what the issue is. We're still trying to work out why we're having problems with the switches and the cutting of the power supply. The solution should look into this to see if there is something wrong with the product."
"Most configuration can be done on the GUI but sometimes you have to go under the hood and tweak on the CLI."
"This brand is not very popular in China."
"I would recommend changing the solution to a recognized one, such as Check Point or Fortinet."
"In terms of improvement, sometimes we have bugs."
"The support is pretty much email-based and that's horrible for an enterprise product. I can't call anybody right away."
"We need to upgrade everything too often."
"I think they need to provide a better firewall solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing for OmniSwitch Ethernet Switches is a one-time purchase with no additional costs."
"It is an expensive solution."
"The pricing is reasonable compared to Aruba and HPE."
"The price should be improved."
"Ubiquiti UniFi Switches are more expensive than other competitors."
"I rate the pricing an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"It's around $179 a device."
"The price could be improved."
"Everything was bought in a one-time buy as a capital investment, so there isn't any licensing."
"I rate the tool's pricing a five out of ten."
"It's challenging to compare Ubiquiti UniFi Switches and other brands directly due to the significant price difference, especially between US brands like Cisco and Aruba versus others. However, compared to US brands, Ubiquiti UniFi Switches are more cost-effective. On the other hand, if compared with brands from China, it might seem expensive."
