Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The machine learning and artificial intelligence on offer are great.""The UI of Sentinel is very good and easy to use, even for beginners.""Native integration with Microsoft security products or other Microsoft software is also crucial. For example, we can integrate Sentinel with Office 365 with one click. Other integrations aren't as easy. Sometimes, we have to do it manually.""It is easy to implement (turn on) - does need a skilled analyst to develop queries and playbooks.""Free ingestion for Azure logs (with E5 licence)""The most valuable features in my experience are the UEBA, LDAP, the threat scheduler, and integration with third-party straight perform like the MISP.""It has a lot of great features.""It is able to connect to an ever-growing number of platforms and systems within the Microsoft ecosystem, such as Azure Active Directory and Microsoft 365 or Office 365, as well as to external services and systems that can be brought in and managed. We can manage on-premises infrastructure. We can manage not just the things that are running in Azure in the public cloud, but through Azure Arc and the hybrid capabilities, we can monitor on-premises servers and endpoints. We can monitor VMware infrastructure, for instance, running as part of a hybrid environment."

"I think that the overall experience with this solution is good, but in particular, I think that the dashboards are quite interactive.""There are many features that are good for clients who are looking for a good SIEM solution. They like the ease of creating a business that is effective and impressive.""ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) works perfectly. It's a stable and scalable product.""When WannaCry attacks I can minimize the damage. My company had no protection at the time. We get alerts in ArcSight and then whenever a user got a copy of WannaCry and the WannaCry malware wants to connect to the mother ship, it alerts me in the ArcSight dashboard, and that helps us a lot. We then just go to the user and erase the malware.""What I found most valuable in ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) is its good integration with third-party products. The solution also has good core capabilities.""I value the event correlation of this product.""The tool sends an automated mail to all the operators, which makes it easy to share the information and reporting.""It is a very useful tool for intelligence building because it has many use cases and many rule sets."

"The most valuable feature of Snare is flexibility or the ability to filter all things you don't want and don't have security value.""Snare has good agents, especially for Windows.""The best thing about Snare is its format and consistency."

More Snare Pros →

Cons
"The playbook is a bit difficult and could be improved.""Sometimes, we are observing large ingestion delays. We expect logs within 5 minutes, but it takes about 10 to 15 minutes.""There is a wider thing called Jupyter Notebooks, which is around the automation side of things. It would be good if there are playbooks that you can utilize without having to have the developer experience to do it in-house. Microsoft could provide more playbooks or more Jupyter Notebooks around MITRE ATT&CK Framework.""We're satisfied with the comprehensiveness of the security protection. That said, we do have issues sometimes where there have been global outages and we need to raise a ticket with Microsoft.""If I see an alert and I want to drill down and get more details about the alert, it's not just one click. In other SIEM tools, you just have to click the IP address of the entity and they give you the complete picture. In Sentinel, you have to write queries or use saved queries to get details.""We'd like also a better ticketing system, which is older.""The product can be improved by reducing the cost to use AI machine learning.""Sometimes, it is hard for us to estimate the costs of Microsoft Sentinel."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"In other products, I have found that they use some kind of GUI that is drag and drop. While in ArcSight they use still scripting. They should keep scripting because some people prefer scripting but they should have the option for those who prefer using drag and drop.""The biggest requirement is that there is no cloud solution for this product yet. They need to create a cloud version. It's the biggest thing they can do to make the solution better.""The centralized dashboard for the hybrid cloud environment needs to be more focused. It needs to be redefined because it's missing most of the information. It should be a little bit easy to use. Currently, integration with various applications and connectors is not that easy. Deployment is easy, but integration is not that easy. ArcSight also has a very high bandwidth consumption to pull the local servers. It should have some kind of better process or ability to transfer files from on-premises to the cloud, from the cloud to on-premises, and from a cloud to another cloud.""The security area has room for improvement.""They should try to include business logic vulnerabilities in the SIEM tool.""The onboarding process for this solution could be better. It also needs a better GUI.""The weakness in this system comes about because, with so many different logs, it is possible that the security analyst will lose information.""The solution could be more stable."

More ArcSight Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) Cons →

"Users will initially find it difficult to identify the event types and installation in Snare.""The solution is now developing a SIEM-like feature on Snare Central Server, but it's not complete yet.""Snare should modernize its GUI a little bit."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "HPE ArcSight pricing might be more expensive than other SIEM solutions, but in my opinion it has powerful features and great flexibility in developing complex use cases."
  • "ArcSight is pretty expensive compared with its competitors. I believe that is fine as it provides value."
  • "Aggregation can help a lot in pushing down licensing costs."
  • "It is best to be an institutional buyer and directly contact the sales team, as they can provide over-the-top discounts for bulk orders."
  • "Thanks to Micro Focus's licensing model, as an MSSP, we are able to see a complete return on our investment almost immediately."
  • "Customers without a ton of resources to dedicate to deployment may be better served by a managed ArcSight service."
  • "The pricing is great compared to others."
  • "The cost of the solution is not very high, although hiring a qualified analyst to work with the product is expensive."

  • "Snare has reasonable pricing."
  • "On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate Snare's pricing a four out of ten."

Snare customers consistently tell us that as the financial and reputational consequences of data breaches, cyber threats like malware and ransomware and the constant risks from insider threats increase that they have urgent and ongoing requirements for maintaining regulatory compliance, auditing and managing cyber threat detection and response. They also tell us that existing solutions like SIEM are often complex to implement and maintain, require specialised technical resources or are increasingly unaffordable or variable in their pricing. As a result of these increased requirements Prophecy International has created the Snare product suite.

Compliance requirements can include any number of regulatory mandates including PCI-DSS, Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA, NERC, GDPR and more. This makes Snare a high value solution for companies in the Government, Defence and Military sectors, Banking, Finance and Insurance, Retail, Health, Energy, Oil & Gas markets.

Snare is a complete suite of Centralised Log Management (CLM), Security Analytics and SIEM tools.
