We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Now, we have only one version of the truth.""Instead of taking two people a week each month to perform our internal KPI reporting, the same two people can have it done in a day.""The reporting part has been very valuable as the capabilities of the tool do not have to change graphs, change how grids are displayed, and can create reports on the fly.""I liked the way that I felt as a user and administrator of it. There were a lot of clicks, drops, drags, etc. versus writing code.""With the combination of 24/7 global support and their community, there was great customer service, tech support, and community support.""Where it used to take me three days at the beginning of the year to create the new financial statement, now it is a matter of minutes because all the data is in the system.""The tool seems to have a lot of ways to handle scaling.""The drill down is good for people who have that high level view, because they can do some analysis based on it."

"The Microsoft Power BI app is very good. It's also very flexible.""The querying capabilities are the most valuable because they allow me to build many automations. We have many workflows and many databases that we work on a daily basis. They need to be updated quite quickly. In order to not to take much of our time doing these updates manually, I have set up these automations using the systems. The process is just to ingest the data and reprocess it. Every time I click a button, everything is updated in almost real time. It is by far the easiest system not only for querying but also for data modeling, data visualization, and deployment. It is light years ahead of Tableau and even Microsoft Excel to do these kinds of things. It is very easy to use and set up, and it has a lot of videos on the internet.""I have found the best features to be the dashboard creation, graphs, charts, and presentation bar graphs.""PowerBi is used to import our production data and generate dashboards, then integrates other Excel sheets to provide managers dashboards. This helps them get insights to make better OEE improvement decisions, mainly where to focus resources. We became able to see indicators from any time frame (day, week, month, or year), then could make better decisions.""I find Power BI's reporting feature the most valuable. The solution has improved a lot. There are new features getting added day by day. In the past, they didn't even have the printing feature, but now they have it.""It is really flexible. The charts and reports are really nice. You have the flexibility of self-service.""Helped identify bad data, enabling the corrections needed to the data for management.""Microsoft BI is very easy to set up and use."

Cons
"I would like an eLearning platform for BOARD.""I'd like to see a more passive report user for enterprise report writers that aren't particularly technical.""One of the things that I would like to see is the ability to have a rule directly referenced on the cubes.""We are looking at ways to improve how we deal with security in BOARD and other similar things. ""We have had some challenges with newer version of the rollout in terms of stability.""Building similar models entirely from scratch could be made quicker with transfer abilities between databases and capsules.""It would be nice to see truly transferable processes from model to model, as well as a method of building repetitive processes.""The one thing that I think we would like to see in terms of improvement of the application is the ability to print. It's fantastic to have all of these graphic visualization of data, but we're not able to very easily just print... From my perspective, if you can have a little "print" button and then you just click it and it would produce what's on the screen, that would be very helpful."

"Capacity could be improved.""Drill-down in dashboards needs to improved. The capability only works in Power BI Desktop today. We need to have an alternative approach today.""I would like to see integration with Excel.""Most of the dashboarding tools have prebuilt graphs. So, you have to stick with them, unless you are going to use a third-party tool to create them, and then you are going to upload them to the BI tool. In Power BI, they started supporting this functionality and created a tool for that, but it isn't yet complete and mature. It is still exceeding the expectations and is better than most of the BI tools when it comes to creating custom graphs, but it needs more enhancement and simplification. It would be good to have a design tool provided by Power BI to design the graphs that we want and set the figures that we want on them.""This solution's performance when handling big data could be improved. Right now, if you're handling big data, the application becomes slow and the performance is very low.""It should be more user-friendly and simple.""We found out that you can't share a report with others unless you have an additional package. That caught us off guard. It came as a program that somebody could go in, build a report, and show it, but you can't share it without having additional licenses.""It would be better if they had some video tutorials. Most people from an Excel background may struggle with measures in Microsoft BI."

  • "It is not the cheapest product on earth, but you get so much. It provides good value for money."
