We performed a comparison between Dynatrace and SCOM based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic and others in Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and Observability."The most valuable feature is capture of 100% of the traffic. Also, exposure to downstream services, that might not necessarily be new, to everybody who's using applications. It triggers them and captures them and it gives visibility to some pieces that might be forgotten or even obscured."
"The linking is very good in Dynatrace. What happens in other monitoring tools is the linking is not proper. In those solutions, a person has to manually link many of the layers and what is happening in them, while in Dynatrace you get that from the very first visit. For example, if a person is visiting your website, from there it will traverse you to the end. If the application is a Java application, it will traverse you there, to the Method level. So that linking and traversing is better in Dynatrace."
"The major improvement was the ability to find errors immediately and predict future failures, or when resources reach the maximum capacity."
"Helps us to see the troubleshooting points or what is hiccuping. This is where we go. We reboot, fix it, or do whatever it takes for it to be taken care of."
"We spend less time on troubleshooting issues since Dynatrace proactively informs us of an impending bottle neck."
"Through end-user monitoring, we were able to measure the user's perceived performance and build an SLA based on that information."
"We're able to tell them which calls, which methods, which interface were the problem."
"On the Managed side tech support has been pretty good. Stuff gets turned around pretty quickly. With them being able to do the remote management from the back-end, they are able to fix stuff up if they need to."
"It discovers the components automatically, which is a fantastic thing. The discovery works in an automatic way, and it has a dynamic way of discovering the components, assets, and applications. It doesn't require any manual intervention."
"SCOM has helped us to monitor all the VMs in our environment, especially the Windows servers."
"They have great integration with the active directory."
"The product has helped our organization with in-depth monitoring."
"It can send messages to our ticketing system."
"This solution satisfies all of the requirements that we need for our Windows-based systems, so if you are using the Windows platform then this is an easy solution."
"It's easy to use."
"The monitoring features are the most valuable. We have seen a major benefit from that so far."
"I believe that something related to IoT devices should be improved."
"They could also, develop an observability platform where you could have the ability to inject events, locks, and traces."
"It requires manual intervention to uninstall the cloud agent from servers you want it removed from."
"Where we are struggling is being able to pull that information out and combine it with other contextual information that we have in other sources. Mining that data in a big-data environment, and joining it together and coming up with larger types of analysis on it."
"The integration of the tools is getting there. It is still not there yet, because we still have to get a lot of tools to put together."
"More visibility into Python processes."
"UEM (User Experience Management) works great for web clients and Android and IOS apps, but for other rich clients it's a lot more challenging."
"Our environment is very complicated anyway, so the initial setup was a bit of a struggle, but only because we have so many applications and JVMs that we have been working on for long time."
"I would like more customized reports. People should have some customization option on the dashboards for whenever they put multiple lists into it. Beyond customizing the content, there should be the ability to customize the colors so that they can engage some priority and mark challenges separately."
"There could be more integration of SIM in the solution."
"Third-party tools have had to be created to make SCOM management pack creation more efficient and effective. However, this weighs down the application as it just adds a resource requirement, which is ballooning the size of the necessary storage and all that for essentially substandard components."
"System Center just provided upgrade and update features for Windows clients, and Windows systems, and did not support Linux, Android, or iOS, and other operating systems. They need to provide better integration with other operating systems if they don't already."
"SCOM needs to improve its usability."
"Application monitoring must be improved."
"The console feature is very poor, and it would be very good for us if this were improved."
"The price could be improved."
