We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We use the product to track events and monitor logs of servers and workstations. I am impressed with the tool's tracking ability. It is intuitive and easy to use.""The Account Lockout Analyzer and the Inactive Users reports are particularly valuable.""I like the user behavior analytics (UBA). It's a machine learning feature that creates a standard profile for each user when you install it. It creates a baseline for every user, so it can detect when anyone deviates from that standard baseline profile. For example, if a user typically logs in at 9:30 am and logs out at 6 pm, ADAudit will flag it as an anomaly when that same logs in after normal hours and alert the admins.""The monitoring and reporting are extensive and we get all the information we need while they continue to enhance the capabilities of the product.""ADAudit Plus's best features are that it's very easy to use with a user-friendly interface, and it gives reports on group policy and object changes that we couldn't find in any other product.""The most valuable feature is the control of the file server.""Real-time monitoring of AD changes and logons is valuable.""The documentation for this solution is good."

"I find it to be a strong product suite, particularly when you need a comprehensive monitoring tool.""It's good at monitoring system-specific things like ports, services.""The product integrates with Remedy.""Monitoring of processes and services is the most valuable feature. It is not necessarily just the server alone in terms of the CPU or the memory. We can go in-depth into services and processes.""AppInsight for SQL: Enables us to see the relevant error log entries on the same page as performance parameters.""SSL Certificate Monitoring and Expiry Alerting""We use the solution as a central monitoring tool. We use it to monitor every transaction that has a relation to the organization’s infrastructure.""I'd rate technical support at eight out of ten. They are helpful and fast."

Cons
"The solution's managing file server activity could be improved.""Its configuration can be better. There were 44 pages of documented notes of what I had to do to get the product to work during the installation process.""The initial setup was quite complex and required some research beforehand.""Sometimes the developers in technical support take time.""ADAudit could have a more sophisticated interface design. They are using a plain UI, which is decent. However, customers have said that it looks a little flat compared to other vendors. It's not fancy.""There are so many reports that it sometimes makes it difficult to navigate to what you need.""The solution should include more details on file creation and modification. It also needs to have a quick message for troubleshooting problems which needs to be detailed and generic.""It assists in managing the active directory and modifying the reintegrated GPOs."

More ManageEngine ADAudit Plus Cons →

"It lacks a user experience for measuring things like the end-to-end time for which a user waits for a specific response in the system. In the application layer, it has some very basic stuff. You have to build your own with manuscripts and things like that.""PerfStack can be made more effective. I am sure SolarWinds already has a plan for the same in coming versions.""SAM's software-defined network monitoring capability is also low and could be improved.""Mapping interactions between systems.""The major concern in the product revolves around application performance monitoring since end-to-end application monitoring is not possible with the tool.""It should also be easier to upgrade SolarWinds. AppDynamics is harder to deploy but easier to upgrade. So AppDynamics takes a lot of time and effort to install, but you can upgrade it in minutes. SolarWinds is the opposite. It's easy to deploy, but upgrades take forever. To date, nobody can complete it on time, so the production environment is sitting idle.""Reporting is the only thing with which we currently have challenges. They have this in two ways. There is the report writer, which is the backend, and we also have web reports, which are on the console. So, they have removed the report writer for the backend reports, and we are making use of the web console, but most of the users are not finding it very interesting to use the frontend reports. I would like them to bring back the report writer. That's the key area within it to improve on the reporting. If they can bring back the report writer, then most users will actually be comfortable. I have some customers who are trying to export their report to an Excel format, but it is not possible because they said any report that has been done from the web console cannot be exported to Excel, but most of the customers need to export their reports to Excel. That's one area they need to work on.""SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor could improve by having a cloud version. They have an observability platform but it still needs to be maintained by us."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Adding features and other functionality it costs you more. Also, the first installation costs an additional amount."
  • "ADAudit Plus's pricing is affordable and flexible, with very low prices in the market."
  • "My guess is that it was around $4,000 or $5,000 a year, and we bought a license, and then we have maintenance fees. I'm not 100% sure how that worked out."
  • "It's a medium-priced solution."
  • "The solution's pricing is acceptable."

  • "I have always said SolarWinds is very “proud” of their products, meaning they are expensive. I cannot afford to purchase all the licenses I need for all the SolarWinds products."
  • "When planning for the number of licenses to purchase, make sure you understand all of the elements within an application required to really understand performance well. In our case, we quickly came to the conclusion that an unlimited license for SAM was the way to go."
  • "Nagios XI, WhatsUpGold, Uptime Software, PRTG, Manage Engine, and SpiceWorks are the other tools that have lower pricing and licensing costs. However, they can't compete with SolarWinds when it comes to the features and functionality that SolarWinds can provide."
  • "I would advise potential buyers to wait until the end of the quarter, end of year, or other time to place orders. There are actually great deals to be had at those times if your budget cycle can match up."
  • "Pricing and licensing is fair for what you get. It does have a great bang-for-the-buck appeal."
  • "SAM is not per server so the pricing model can be deceiving. If you have an enterprise environment, you will quickly exceed your licensing quickly. You should know this before going in."
  • "Understanding the counts of objects to monitor will determine the licensing need. In terms of pricing, it’s not cheap but it’s not expensive as larger vendors whose products don’t have all the features or integrations."
  • "The product might cost you $30,000 USD to buy, but scaling this solution requires the purchase of additional polling engines at $20,000 USD each."
