Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The HTML5 interface is very robust.""Nutanix Prism offers web scaling, which facilitates easy scaling.""Prism Central is a single point to manage every cluster. Everything can be managed in one panel. Everything is there on the main page of the dashboard.""Resource monitoring is the most valuable feature.""Nutanix Prism is very fast compared to VMware and whatever you need to do, you can do it quickly.""For me, the speed of cloning virtual machines and the hyper-convergence feature are the most valuable aspects of the solution.""Because in my role I create a lot of reports, it is very handy to be able to show the customer, "This is your cluster. At the moment, you are using this much CPU, this much RAM, and this much storage." I can give them information on what they're using, how many VMs, and the amount of data they're using.""It can combine computing, storage and networks in a single location."

"We are able to monitor our virtual infrastructure, virtual machines, windows servers, databases, and the network using a simple network management protocol. We are able to pull almost all the metrics that we want, receive notifications, and have them integrate with telegrams for certain devices that are critical, such as UPSs.""Every new asset placed in the environment can be automatically detected, predicting human failures.""The template system in Zabbix is very beneficial as it saves time in configuration.""Templates are good. We download them from the official Zabbix site or the community. If the information we need isn't available, we create custom templates based on client requirements.""The level of discovery-based configuration that lets us auto-configure the monitoring for various systems is a valuable feature.""I like being able to use proxy servers for different locations. The agents are pretty cool. They're easy to roll out. The standard out-of-the-box templates are also pretty easy to use. The integration with other learning products is also good. I have, in the past, used Slack, but we've integrated it with Microsoft Teams. We also use it for SMS with a service called Redcoat. It is very flexible. It does what I need it to do, and my manager is very happy because it doesn't cost anything. We are nearing 4,000 hosts inside Zabbix, and we've got another 6,000 access points to add to it. We've thrown everything at it, and it has managed to keep going. I am very impressed with the tool, and I'd shake their hand very hard if I got to say the compliments to the Zabbix team. They keep improving it and doing refreshes, which is one good thing about it. There is also online information as well as books that you can purchase if you're willing to read enough. There is a lot to pick up, but it is a pretty complete solution.""Zabbix is a cost-effective solution. We're a small organization with a few dozen devices to monitor, and it was available for free. We can see what we need. We haven't done an in-depth analysis on it, but we're currently okay with the product.""There is less computing power needed for scaling."

Cons
"Nutanix Prism can be more stable because it's not as stable as VMware.""The interface is good, but it needs improvements. There are a lot of functions that are only available in the CLI. In addition, some of the hardware components could be improved. We already had some trouble with disks.""When we get a request from a user for a file-level recovery, there are self-recovery options, but they only work if the replication is available to that cluster locally... In VMware, we could restore a VM and attach the hard drive to any other server and copy the file easily. But that kind of facility is not available in AHV.""There are a few areas related to visibility on the dashboard that can be improved. It's good, but the visibility can be improved in terms of single locations.""The solution could be a bit more user-friendly. The dashboard and configuration should be much easier to use.""I would like to see the capability to use FC SAN storage.""Each era every year, new economies arise and ways to develop the platform to improve both the interface with the end-user and to make the main load more flexible to the specialized user of the platform.""The product currently fails to provide a complete view to customers."

More Nutanix Prism Cons →

"Documentation terminology could be improved.""Sometimes, the documentation is a little bit written in Estonia – a country in Europe. The language barrier and translation to English can sometimes make it difficult to understand what they're trying to get at. It's just a language thing.""Zabbix claims that there is an auto-discovery process but my team member was facing difficulty and was told that it's not really automatic, and there are some manual steps.""I would like to see a more flexible mobile client, and better HA out of the box.""Look and feel.""Zabbix isn't very good at automation just yet.""I want Zabbix to improve the UX/UI. Zabbix doesn't use a JavaScript chart for images, and I want them to improve this.""In an upcoming release, there should be automated reports which we are currently doing manually. For example, if we collect a report file every day and want to send it to a moderator for review. We are expecting this feature to come out soon but it would be valuable to have now."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
