We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Technical support is helpful.""What I like best about vCenter Orchestrator is that it makes life easier through automation. People can request to automate all processes with vCenter Orchestrator, such as adding storage, creating VMs, removing VMs, and extending VMs.""The most valuable feature is how easy it makes it to manage the VM.""We can scale the solution.""I am impressed with the tool's easiness to work with VMware solutions.""It is the most cost-effective method for moving data between machines.""The product's initial setup phase was easy.""In regards to the workflows, the fact that we can actually have a full dashboard library of all the existing workflows on this is great. We can see all the workflows and what all the actions do and can work with scripts."

"It's a great tool for monitoring and tracking data of our entire environment.""When there is an issue at the disk level in vSAN, vROps gives us an alarm that the issue is happening on particular disks. Other solutions cannot give this type of alert for vCenter. Even vCenter cannot give that type of information.""VMware provides good support. We are a GSS customer which means that we have global support with a dedicated engineer from VMware's side so we have no issues with support.""One of the best features is the monitoring. It gives you proactive recommendations, based on the information that you have. It recommends changes. For example, if an ESX service is heavily loaded, it will tell you to make some changes, such as storage optimizations. Every tool does monitoring, but this one gives you more proactive monitoring, with the recommendations and actions that are needed.""The analysis features available with it allow us to do very high-level, enhanced root-cause analysis on events and issues that arise.""From a troubleshooting standpoint, beforehand it took us a lot of time to actually go into esxtop, pull the actual raw data that was actually happening from a storage level, a network level, a CPU/VCPU and memory level. But having all of these resources at our fingertips, from a graphical user interface, we can pinpoint the pitfall very easily""I've found vROps' predictive actions, monitoring, reporting, and provisioning features to be useful.""It is easy to see when something has gone wrong. We just have to go in and fix it. The reduced time it takes to spot and fix an issue has improved my organization. It saves the amount of resources that we use to fix an incident"

Cons
"I would like to see better performance.""It is practically difficult at this stage to really comment on the improvisations of V central. But more tech events and PoC cases would help the EA to design better solutions and utilization.""The solution's price could be cheaper.""We would like more flexibility in sizing data storage and virtual machines, as the current options aren't very adaptable.""Storage has room for improvement. It's a big problem for our solution. The interface also needs improvement, it should be simplified.""It is too expensive. One of the main issues is the price.""I would like to see a greater ability to do mobile administration.""The solution needs to integrate with Cloud facilities like AWS and Azure."

"In terms of user-friendliness, there are a lot of areas that take a lot of time to research and figure out what the information is actually telling me, so that I know how to better use the product and troubleshoot issues that I see. It would be nice if they could fine-tune the user-interface a little bit.""When we first bought it, our vision was to use role-based access, give application teams access to view a dashboard for their stuff. We found out that the vROps tool can't handle more than about 20 concurrent sessions... We have some 3000 applications.""I would like to see improvements in managing within a single cluster - managing DRS a lot better as far as utilization of each host goes, within a single cluster. That would make it comparable to VMTurbo (Turbonomic). That has that feature where you can also manage it within a single cluster, move workloads around to balance out the hosts.""I would like to see them get a holistic view of the organization, not just focusing on the server and the state that it's running on but to widen that out from the end user all the way through. It's a key critical part but actually, it needs to bring outside of that, then to the networking elements and the inter-dependencies that are in hospital solutions.""It can get a bit complex when getting into the endpoint monitoring during setup.""For the most part, we have found it to be user-friendly. It has gotten better over time since the first version of vROps that I used. The interface has really improved since then.""Sometimes what a customer sees as a need for improvement could be incorrect sizing or a result of a specific deployment. So usually, the things we want are a more frequent sampling of the various metrics and the like.""It's complex to manage because there are a lot of options and metrics. It's complex when you want to do something very specific."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our licensing is on a yearly basis. We pay for the license and then we pay the support every year."
  • "This solution is expensive and the licensing is more attractive for Haveri."
  • "The price is reasonable, and one of the reasons that this product was selected."
  • "We provide the VMware solution to our clients, for which they pay a perpetual license."
  • "The concept of hyper-convergence is smart. I don't know if it can be applied with less cost to be more affordable for small or medium-sized companies. The cost is a very important factor for it. We are currently depending on SAN storage. However, the hyper-converged solutions are depending on the storage within the hosts, such as vSAN in the VMware. It is a smart solution."
  • "We pay a yearly fee, based on our entries."
  • "The licensing module is somewhat complex. Calculating the cost is complicated. Many of our clients are unclear about the billing system and the traffic metering."
  • "The licensing cost is manageable because they have different versions available, standard, essential, and advanced."

  • "Don't overallocate! This means that you don't have to buy many hosts. You can save money that way."
  • "The pricing: It's expensive."
  • "Pricing is good for us. We're non-profit so we get a break on that."
  • "I would like to see a free offering. Cost is always a factor in any sort of line. Obviously, the value added is there and it's worth it."
  • "We have seen ROI in performance. It used to be our company was giving out eight CPUs to all servers. That was bad performance-wise. People were seeing slow compute times for their applications."
  • "Pricing could always be cheaper, but it's acceptable."
  • "vRealize Operations has proved to be a cost effective solution for our big environment."
  • "As we continue to implement it across multiple environments, it reduces costs as well."
