Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The identification of verification-related security vulnerabilities is really important and one of the key things. It also identifies vulnerabilities for any kind of third-party tool coming into the system or any third-party tools that you are using, which is very useful for avoiding random hacking.""The SAST component was absolutely 100% stable.""Vulnerability details is valuable.""We were using HPE Security Fortify to scan code for security vulnerabilities, but it can scan only after a successful compile. If the code has dependencies or build errors, the scan fails. With Checkmarx, pre-compile scanning is seamless. This allows us to scan more code.""Our static operation security has been able to identify more security issues since implementing this solution.""It allows for SAST scanning of uncompiled code. Further, it natively integrates with all key repos formats (Git, TFS, SVN, Perforce, etc).""The solution is always updating to continuously add items that create a level of safety from vulnerabilities. It's one of the key features they provide that's an excellent selling point. They're always ahead of the game when it comes to finding any vulnerabilities within the database.""The solution communicates where to fix the issue for the purpose of less iterations."

"The product is related to US usage with TLS contact fees, i.e. how more data center connections will help lower networking costs.""We have found multiple issues in our embedded system network protocols, related to buffer overflow. We have reduced some of these issues.""Whatever the test suit they give, it is intelligent. It will understand the protocol and it will generate the test cases based on the protocol: protocol, message sequence, protocol, message structure... Because of that, we can eliminate a lot of unwanted test cases, so we can execute the tests and complete them very quickly."

Cons
"The tool is currently quite static in terms of finding security vulnerabilities. It would be great if it was more dynamic and we had even more tools at our disposal to keep us safe. It would help if there was more scanning or if the process was more automated.""With Checkmarx, normally you need to use one tool for quality and you need to use another tool for security. I understand that Checkmarx is not in the parity space because it's totally different, but they could include some free features or recommendations too.""You can't use it in the continuous delivery pipeline because the scanning takes too much time.""Its user interface could be improved and made more friendly.""The statistics module has a function that allows you to show some statistics, but I think it's limited. Maybe it needs more information.""Checkmarx has a slightly difficult compilation with the CI/CD pipeline.""Licensing models and Swift language support are the aspects in which this product needs to improve. Swift is a new language, in which major customers require support for lower prices.""I would like to see the DAST solution in the future."

More Checkmarx One Cons →

"It does not support the complete protocol stack. There are some IoT protocols that are not supported and new protocols that are not supported.""Codenomicon Defensics should be more advanced for the testing sector. It should be somewhat easy and flexible to install.""Sometimes, when we are testing embedded devices, when we trigger the test cases, the target will crash immediately. It is very difficult for us to identify the root cause of the crash because they do not provide sophisticated tools on the target side. They cover only the client-side application... They do not have diagnostic tools for the target side. Rather, they have them but they are very minimal and not very helpful."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is the right price for quality delivery."
  • "I believe pricing is better compared to other commercial tools."
  • "The pricing was not very good. This is just a framework which shouldn’t cost so much."
  • "The pricing is competitive and provides a lower TCO (total cost of ownership) for achieving application security."
  • "It is a good product but a little overpriced."
  • "The license has a vague language around P1 issues and the associated support. Make sure to review these in order to align them with your organizational policies."
  • "Checkmarx is not a cheap scanning tool, but none of the security tools are cheap. Checkmarx is a powerful scanning tool, and it’s essential to have one of these products."
  • "We got a special offer for a 30% reduction for three years, after our first year. I think for a real source-code scanning tool, you have to add a lot of money for Open Source Analysis, and AppSec Coach (160 Euro per user per year)."
