We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is easy to add-on to the tool. If we need to add a new switch, a new server, or a new chassis for Blades, it is easy. It is not disruptive. You just do it.""There are very many features, but from experience, the single point of contact for support has been valuable to our customers.""When you open the box, they give you a very nice diagram. Which was my initial guide through setting up any NetApp SAN. It worked itself out pretty well.""FlexPod has affected the workload of our network admin team awesomely. We have fewer employees. It's good.""It runs our VMs. Our SQL databases are all on VMs, so everything is virtualized.""The product is robust, stable, and has flexibility.""It is innovative because it's bare metal and you can customize it easily. This brings a lot of benefits to the solution.""This sounds dumb, but it just works. I don't want to have to deal with support, and I don't need to because, again, it has just worked."

"This is a scalable solution. Our customers begin with an initial configuration and later add more servers, memory and other options to meet the demands of increased processing.""The tool's most valuable features are stability and scalability.""The solution's technical support was good. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.""The most valuable features of the solution are the flexibility and the availability of the machines.""Consolidation and duplications features.""Most of the HP products I come across are they are easy to install. That's not very complex.""This solution is very simple to use.""The most valuable features of HPE ConvergedSystem are scalability and resilience."

Cons
"Parts of the initial setup were complex, especially on the networking side.""I would like to see more interoperability within FlexPods. This comes into more of how we grow from multiple domains to a massive domain.""There are times where we have had issues with technical support.""We would like better management of cases. For example, if you open a FlexPod case, it's not always straightforward. It would be nice to have centralized resource to open FlexPod cases and ease up management of our cases.""I'd like them to bring back the GUI for NetApp ONTAP. They changed the interface in version 9.8, and it's not great. In 9.9 they've tried to bring it back a little bit, but it's still not great.""I would also like to feel more support. NetApp has been pretty good, for the most part, but Cisco has more work to do. I've had very good experience with NetApp. Instead of having to call three different areas and saying, "I'm a FlexPod customer." It would be nice if it could be just one that gets routed. I know it would require three large companies to work together, but that's what would make this product a ten. They could definitely use with making it more user-friendly.""Hyper-V is not as well supported by NetApp and Cisco as VMware is, which is something that should be improved.""As the technology grows, we're looking to upgrade our storage systems to something faster, and we're hoping to improve our servers with next-generation technology. So we want to enhance our server infrastructure and explore server virtualization with VMware. That's the improvement that our clients are demanding."

More FlexPod XCS Cons →

"HPE ConvergedSystem needs to improve its price.""The solution needs to add NFS features.""This is an expensive solution.""The solution has a complicated front-end.""It could be enhanced by improving the built-in backup solution.""Pricing is an area of concern in the solution where improvements are required.""The tool has shortcomings in its performance monitoring part.""I would like to see monitoring solutions included, as well as brand support."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing and licensing is very affordable from a FlexPod perspective."
  • "It seems very cost effective once it's in place, and it's easy to expand and easy to add capacity without a lot of extra money."
  • "If your company really needs to be up 100% of the time, and you need to do a private data center, I don't know if I could realistically actually recommend another blueprint."
  • "Anytime that you are buying any storage make sure you understand storage. Do not just buy storage based on what somebody sells you in terms of IO or throughput."
  • "Buy storage based on the solutions you need, the technologies you need, and what will make your life a lot easier down the road."
  • "As a whole, it is inexpensive, and it uses the least amount of parts."
  • "Storage is very expensive. To buy MIC cards and additional storage either on-prem or in the cloud, the IT department does not have money for it, so you need a more niche product or a more flexible way to store your data. That is the benefit that you get from this product."
  • "We purchased the solution through CDW. They are a partner and knowledgeable."
  • More FlexPod XCS Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Pricing is good. We have not calculated what hyper-converged infrastructure has brought us but I think there has to be some lower cost for us, compared to the public cloud. Obviously, there would be a lower cost, probably by more than half."
  • "This is an expensive system and not every customer has the kind of budget to support it."
  • "The pricing is sensitive."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "My company has a five year contract for HPE ConvergedSystem. The contracts depend on companies and sometimes it can be three years. The solution is worth its price."
  • "There are some extra costs in addition to the licensing costs for the yearly maintenance from professional third-party services."
  • "The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
  • "The pricing is competitive. Not a major problem. We have a subscription model."

The announcement of Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant on Integrated Systems (read hyper convergence) has put Nutanix as the leader of the pack as of August 2015. Clearly, many of us get caught up because it is the “greatest feeling in the world”. However, this faux feeling is not reality because there are many factors that made the pack leaders in the Magic Quadrant (MQ). First of all, the MQ is about market perception. There is no doubt that the pack leaders in the Leaders Quadrant have earned their right to be there. Each company’s revenue, market share, gross margin, company’s profitability have helped put each as leaders in the pack. However, it is also measured by branding, marketing, market perception and acceptance and other intangible factors. Secondly, VMware EVO: Rail has split the market when EMC has 3 HC solutions in VCE, ScaleIO and EVO: Rail. Cisco wanted to do their own HC piece in Whiptail (between the 2014 MQ and 2015 MQ reports), and closed down Whiptail when their new CEO came on board. NetApp chose EVO: Rail and also has the ever popular FlexPod. That is why you see that in… Read more →
