We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is very flexible and easy because you can store data on cloud.""I have found the most valuable feature is security control. I also like the branching and cloning software.""The most valuable features of Gitlab are integration with CIE and the ability to rapidly deploy solutions, projects, and applications. It is very easy to use, and there are no complaints.""The stability is good.""The initial setup of GitLab is pretty simple, with no complications.""I find the features and version control history to be most valuable for our development workflow. These aspects provide us with a clear view of changes and help us manage requests efficiently.""I have had no problem with the stability of the solution.""Key features allow creation of well-presented Wiki that includes ideas, development, and domains."

"It has the ability to scale, and the fact that it doesn't produce a lot of false positives.""I like Veracode's static scanning and SCA. We use three static scans, software composition analysis, and dynamic scans. We haven't used dynamic scanning as much, but we're trying to integrate that into our environment more.""What I found most valuable in Veracode Static Analysis is that it categorizes security vulnerabilities.""I like the way the flaws are reported in the system.""The most valuable feature comes from the fact that it is cloud-based, and I can scale up without having to worry about any other infrastructure needs.""I believe the static analysis is Veracode's best and most valuable feature. Software composition analysis is a feature that most people don't use, and we don't use SCA for most of our applications. However, this is an essential feature because it provides insight into the third-party libraries we use.""The main feature, and one of the most important, is the static code analysis. We are able to complete an analysis of the security flaws with this platform. It's very good at helping us find and fix flaws.""Veracode enables us to build a strong data security layer in our platforms. We can increase customer confidence in data security. Some PCI/HIPAA compliance issues were impossible to resolve without Veracode."

Cons
"It would be really good if they integrated more features in application security.""It would be better if there weren't any outages. There are occasions where we usually see a lot of outages using GitLab. It happens at least once a week or something like that. Whatever pipelines you're running, to check the logs, you need to have a different set of tools like Argus or something like that. If you have pipelines running on GitLab, you need a separate service deployed to view the logs, which is kind of a pain. If the logs can be used conveniently on GitLab, that would be definitely helpful. I'm not talking about the CI/CD pipelines but the back-end services and microservices deployed over GitLab. To view the logs for those microservices, you need to have separate log viewers, which is kind of a pain.""Even if I say I want some improvement, they will say it is already planned in the first quarter, second quarter, or third quarter. That said, most everything is quite improved already, and they're improving even further still.""It should be used by a larger number of people. They should raise awareness.""It can be free for commercial use.""The tool should include a feature that helps to edit the code directly.""Expand features to match other tools such as a static code analysis tool so third-party integrations are not required.""GitLab's Windows version is yet not available and having this would be an improvement."

More GitLab Cons →

"There might be room for improvement in the in-app guidance and the tips and tricks for the developer about how to progress. We would like more insight into the development environment, where they would get guidance on how to avoid flaws.""The runtime code analysis could be improved so that we can see every element in one place.""I would like to see them provide more content in the developer training section. This field is really changing each day and there are flaws that are detected each day. Some sort of regular updates to the learning would help.""They need to have a plug-in, a better integration with the development environment.""The sandbox could use some improvement; when creating a sandbox, it requires us to put the application name in twice, which seems unnecessary.""They could improve how they fix vulnerabilities. They could have more support in place to help the developers.""It's problematic if you want to integrate it with your pipelines because the documentation is not so well written and it's full of typos. It is not presented in a structured way. It does not say, "If you want to achieve this particular thing, you have to do steps 1, 2, and 3." Instead, it contains bits of information in different parts, and you have to read everything and then understand the big picture.""The user interface can sometimes be a little challenging to work with, and they seem to be changing their algorithm on what is an issue. I understand why they do it, but it sometimes causes more work on our end."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I think that we pay approximately $100 USD per month."
  • "The price is okay."
  • "It seems reasonable. Our IT team manages the licenses."
  • "Its price is fine. It is on the cheaper side and not expensive. You have to pay additionally for GitLab CI/CD minutes. Initially, we used the free version. When we ran out of GitLab minutes, we migrated to the paid version."
  • "It is very expensive. We can't bear it now, and we have to find another solution. We have a yearly subscription in which we can increase the number of licenses, but we have to pay at the end of the year."
  • "I don't mind the price because I use the free version."
  • "We are using its free version, and we are evaluating its Premium version. Its Ultimate version is very expensive."
  • "The price of GitLab could be better, it is expensive."

  • "Its complexity makes it quite expensive, but it’s all worth it, with all the engineering in the background."
  • "The pricing is pretty high."
  • "The worst part about the product is that it does not scale at all. Also, microservices apps will cost you a fortune."
  • "I think licensing needs to be changed or updated so that it works with adjustments. Pricing is expensive compared to the amount of scanning we perform."
  • "It's worth the value"
  • "Pricing seems fair for what is offered, and licensing has been no problem. All developers are able to get the access they need."
  • "It can be expensive to do this, so I would just make sure that you're getting the proper number of licenses. Do your analysis. Make sure you know exactly what it is you need, going in."
  • "The licensing and prices were upfront and clear. They stand behind everything that is said during the commercial phase and during the onboarding phase. Even the most irrelevant "that can be done" was delivered, no matter how important the request was."
