We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable features in my experience are the UEBA, LDAP, the threat scheduler, and integration with third-party straight perform like the MISP.""Another area where it is helping us is in creating a single dashboard for our environment. We can collect all the logs into a log analytics workset and run queries on top of it. We get all the results in the dashboard. Even a layman can understand this stuff. The way Microsoft presents it is really incredible.""The features that stand out are the detection engine and its integration with multiple data sources.""Sentinel enables us to ingest data from our entire ecosystem. In addition to integrating our Cisco ASA Firewall logs, we get our Palo Alto proxy logs and some on-premises data coming from our hardware devices... That is very important and is one way Sentinel is playing a wider role in our environment.""Sentinel is a Microsoft product, so they provide very robust use cases and analytic groups, which are very beneficial for the security team. I also like the ability to integrate data sources into the software for on-premise and cloud-based solutions.""The part that was very unexpected was Sentinel's ability to integrate with Azure Lighthouse, which, as a managed services solution provider, gives us the ability to also manage our customers' Sentinel environments or Sentinel workspaces. It is a big plus for us. With its integration with Lighthouse, we get the ability to monitor multiple workspaces from one portal. A lot of the Microsoft Sentinel workbooks already integrate with that capability, and we save countless amounts of money by simply being able to almost immediately realize multitenant capabilities. That alone is a big plus for us.""What is most useful, is that it has a good connection to the Microsoft ecosystem, and I think that's the key part.""The native integration of the Microsoft security solution has been essential because it helps reduce some false positives, especially with some of the impossible travel rules that may be configured in Microsoft 365. For some organizations, that might be benign because they're using VPNs, etc."

"I find LogRhythm's log management capabilities to be beneficial.""The major feature of this solution is its easy configuration which helps different team members to work on it effectively. This kind of feature is not available in other solutions because of a request for specialised schemes for configuration report extraction and searching. Another feature that I really admire is the significant improvement in the compliance in the auditing process by the solution. Our organisation-specific complaints require where the mailbox data needs to be forwarded, stored and searchable for a certain time period. This solution categorises data based on different types, which include cold, warm and hot data. These features allow faster and easier extraction of any data even if the event was occurring several years ago. I also like other features, especially user behaviour analysis and automation. If suddenly someone accesses your side or an unusual traffic is recorded from a user the solution flags it very effectively.""The most valuable features of the solution are network monitoring, user behavior analytics, and log collection.""LogRhythm's GUI is easy to explore. We also like other features, such as its integration with other security solutions, log correlation, and the deployment of use cases.""Our clients enjoy having one dashboard to monitor their environments in real time.""The feature that makes it usable is the web interface.""The user interface is good.""The dashboards in the LogRhythm SIEM really help us as a starting point. It gives us a starting point we can go to every day. We walk through several dashboards to see anomalous activity for further investigation."

"Splunk Enterprise Security is a standard solution providing good customer service and partnership.""The solution's most valuable features are its ability to transact in the cloud and its ability to onboard data easily with minimum connectors.""You can run reports against multiple devices at the same time. You are able to troubleshoot a single application on a thousand servers. You can do this with a single query, since it is very easy to do.""It is the best tool if you have a complex environment or if data ingestion is too huge.""There are lots of free learning materials on their website.""Capability to expand the functionality through custom code for data inputs, commands, visualization, alerts, and machine learning.""The most valuable features are how stable and easy to use Splunk is.""The most valuable feature is the custom dashboard feature."

Cons
"Multi-tenancy, in my opinion, needs to be improved. I believe it can do better as a managed service provider.""If we want to use more features, we have to pay more. There are multiple solutions on the cloud itself, but the pricing model package isn't consistent, which is confusing to clients.""We do have in-built or out-of-the-box metrics that are shown on the dashboard, but it doesn't give the kind of metrics that we need from our environment whereby we need to check the meantime to detect and meantime to resolve an incident. I have to do it manually. I have to pull all the logs or all the alerts that are fed into Sentinel over a certain period. We do this on a monthly basis, so I go into Microsoft Sentinel and pull all the alerts or incidents we closed over a period of thirty days.""We do see continuous improvement all the time, however, I haven't got a specific feature that is lacking or not well designed.""The data connectors for third-party tools could be improved, as some aren't available in Sentinel. They need to be available in the data connector panel.""If Azure Sentinel had the ability to ingest Azure services from different tenants into another tenant that was hosting Azure Sentinel, and not lose any metadata, that would be a huge benefit to a lot of companies.""Sentinel could improve its ticketing and management. A few customers I have worked with liked to take the data created in Sentinel. You can make some basic efforts around that, but the customers wanted to push it to a third-party system so they could set up a proper ticketing management system, like ServiceNow, Jira, etc.""The playbook is a bit difficult and could be improved."

"We've tried to work with a couple of engineering department guys there. We've called them and called them but we never hear anything back.""LogRhythm NextGen SIEM could improve by adding more applications for the banking sector. There are not any custom applications at this time.""Stability has probably been one area where Health Checks have not been great with the product. We have been told that they are going to improve Health Checks on product, though we do struggle with them on a daily basis.""The built-in functionality of the solution for NDR, SOAR, SIEM, and EDS has room for improvement.""More detail in the alerts given to avoid additional searches, as often the source or destination associated with the alert is not evidenced.""More help and assistance with some of the open source products, everything seems to be focused on Windows versus giving some guidance and some documentation on how to use it.""Sometimes, the tool fails to get the correlated events that triggered the alerts.""We use Windows Event Forwarding to collect the logs from our Windows clients, and the logs get aggregated as one data source on that collector. Therefore, finding logs specific to one particular Windows system requires some creativity in how we search the SIEM."

More LogRhythm SIEM Cons →

"Splunk's ability to analyze malicious activities scores an 8 out of 10, but there's room for improvement. By analyzing emerging patterns, Splunk could identify and predict potential threats more effectively.""Sometimes, there is latency in the logs.""A problem that we had recently had was we licensed it based on how much data you upload to them every day. Something changed in one our applications, and it started generating three to four times as many logs and. So now, we are trying to assemble something with parts of the Splunk API to warn ourselves, then turn it off and throttle it back more. However it would be better if they had something systematically built into the product that if you're getting close to your license, then to shut things down.""While Splunkbase (the app repository) has a lot of great content, some apps are terribly old and could stand to be updated or purged.""We usually have to follow up with technical support on our open cases.""The algorithms customization of Splunk could improve. They have limited algorithms for machine learning support. If they can allow the user to add more machine learning algorithms, such as the ability to choose the algorithm that a user might want. Additionally, they should provide the required libraries for those algorithms, and then analyzes the data for use.""Splunk should have more regional data centers in the Middle East.""The solution could improve by increasing the performance. We have run into problems when large amounts of data are processed."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "Look closely at the cost of licensing of other products. This should include setups and the need for support services. I did a RFQ to 2 other vendors before choosing this product."
  • "If you don't have your staff, absolutely look into the co-pilot and factor that into your cost evaluation."
  • "I would recommend that whatever sales quotes to them upfront, they will probably go up. Because they are probably going to outgrow that very quickly or once they start getting everything into it, they are going to have to move up anyway."
  • "Look for whatever will give you the most value. That's the main point. It is not one size fits all."
  • "I would recommend talking to the rep. That's the biggest thing because they will know what questions to ask."
  • "In comparison to the competition, they are more affordable. This allows us to do more with less."
  • "The solution has provided us with consistency and increased staff productivity through orchestrated automated work flows by at least 20 percent."
  • "I have seen a measurable decrease in the mean time to detect and respond to threats. We went from not detecting them to detecting them. We can actually pick up what is anomalous in our network now."

  • "Pricing and licensing is quite expensive. But for the value the product provides, it seems at par in the market."
  • "Although Splunk is an expensive product, it is designed to be utilized across your organization in order to maximize your ROI and lower your TCO."
  • "It is not cheap."
  • "Splunk Enterprise becomes extremely expensive after the 20GB/month license."
  • "You will eat up whatever you purchase quickly. The level of insights that Splunk empowers is addictive."
  • "Splunk licensing model might seem expensive but with all the gain in functionalities you will have compared to traditional SIEM solutions I think it’s worth the price."
  • "Pricing is pretty fair."
  • "While licensing can be a concern, there are ways to reduce the licensing costs including filtering some events."
