We performed a comparison between Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows 10 based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Windows 10 wins out in this comparison. The main difference between the two solutions is that Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is not user friendly, while reviewers say that Windows 10 is. Windows users are also happier with its pricing.
"The graphical user interface is useful. However, we prefer to use the command line as we can do many more things."
"The most valuable features of RHEL are security, performance tuning, storage management, and OS-level automation."
"The product is easy to use."
"Red Hat Enterprise Linunx's most valuable feature is patching."
"We use RHEL in our infrastructure, which consists of VM and Linux. We use it to create clusters."
"One of the most important features is the package manager. It provides the ability to very easily roll back transactions when something has gone wrong. It is an easy-to-use tool that helps me in situations where something unexpected has happened. I found that this was one of the solution's major advantages over other distributions."
"Red Hat Enterprise Linux is lightweight and can be run on almost anything."
"It is a well-established operating system. We have tried to implement almost every feature of a version in our environment, and it has been very reliable. We are not facing many production issues on a day-to-day basis. They have well-documented articles on their documentation site and a knowledge base on their website. When we need to implement anything, we are able to find information about the best practices and the solution."
"It offers third-party or media environment support. I also like native environment support. Camera"
"It is easy to use."
"The product is pretty stable."
"I have found the product to be scalable."
"Among the most valuable aspects are the graphics tools and the integrated security features, with a notably effective firewall."
"The solution has been issue-free."
"It's very simple to use."
"As a Microsoft Tester, I like enabling the Microsoft Hyper-V and running the Virtual Machines for testing purposes."
"The only issue that we have is that Red Hat specifically promotes OpenStack, and we don't use OpenStack. It's good if you're using OpenStack, but if you're not using OpenStack, and you're using Docker or something else, it isn't that good. Having more support for non-OpenStack would be very helpful, but, of course, as part of their business, we don't expect it."
"I also want the co-pilot to provide more granular control and more features in the GUI, so we can have one configuration from the GUI itself. It would be helpful to have a feature similar to the one in Windows where we can manage all the net flows from one console in a single pane of glass and install it on-premises like an admin center. It would be great if Red Hat had some kind of admin center to manage all the RHEL boxes without using an additional product like Satellite or something, we could use the co-pilot on all the systems to monitor the dashboard."
"I'd like to see more of NCurses type menu systems in some instances. We're dealing with SUSE Enterprise Linux, they have an NCurses menu system. It's a menu system. It will write there. Even some of the higher-end Unix systems like AIX have some inner menu system where all the configuration tools are right there so your administrator doesn't have to jump through multiple directories to configure files if needed. I like the simplicity of Red Hat because it's pretty easy but having an NCurses menu when you have to get something done quickly would be nice."
"The high cost of Red Hat Enterprise Linux has room for improvement."
"The GUI has room for improvement. It needs to be managed by many administrators. It has basic command lines. They could improve it with better automation. We'd like to be able to create a script, and then have the ability to deploy it where we don't need to write everything manually. That part can be useful for automating."
"The graphical user interface should be more user-friendly. It's a concern because the command line is perfectly fine."
"I don't like the UI changes that come with different versions."
"The default settings are confusing."
"I think the price should be lower for all computer products. Microsoft is a major company that makes a lot of money, so maybe they have enough."
"Windows 7 and Windows 10 are identical. However, Windows 10 is the slowest of all the variants. You need to use a solid-state drive if you are going to run Windows. Otherwise, once you install it, and give it some time it is going to slow your whole system down. Especially if you are using the internet, it is going to slow your system down fast. Additionally, it could be more secure as Windows 10 is more vulnerable to viruses."
"There are a lot of patches that are released frequently that always ask for a reboot. This causes errors and unpredictable actions on the computer. Sometimes it will get hot and reboot and all those kind of patches which will happen after an installation. That is something that needs improvement."
"It takes a lot of hard drive space when you're using it. I also have Windows 10 on my personal computer, and it does take up an awful lot of hard drive space. This is probably something about which nothing can be done, and it is just a pet peeve of mine."
"The design of different folders and icons should be more intuitive and accessible. Windows 10 should offer the wireless transfer of file and folder sharing between mobile devices and computers, similar to the AirDrop feature by Apple."
"In Windows 10, the magnifier is really bad in comparison to the macOS zooming feature."
"They could really improve or clarify user account types and stuff. I help people with their Microsoft Windows 10 installations and setups. A lot of times, I pre-configure devices for them, and it is a pain to switch the user so that it shows them as the owner when I've done the initial setup. I have found some workarounds for that, but user management on it outside of a domain is somewhat cumbersome. They probably expected that one person is going to be the management and owner of it, and they seem to have built it that way, but third parties like us, who help friends and family with their setups, can sometimes run into some headaches while trying to help people without having our data loaded over to the machine with the synchronization. Microsoft has a tendency to try and put too much into what is supposed to be just an operating system. I would rather have choices and pick what I want to include. They sometimes cram too much in there."
"Windows reboot too often, it is a nightmare. I hate it."
