Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the ease of use.""The most valuable feature of Box is security.""The collaboration of the solution is good.""The interface is very good.""Box is extremely stable, they have not been hacked or lost any data in the past seventeen years. I am very impressed with it.""File sharing with collaborators not on the same domain with offline access from multiple devices: I work on many projects that are multi-organizational, such as with customers, suppliers, or acquisitions.""Sharing and collaborating across files and folders has been a massive game changer.""The solution is used for data storage and any kind of visualization."

"It's easy to move files around, even to, for example, SharePoint.""From a small firm perspective, Egnyte Connect is simple, it is easy to get users up and running the same day, and I have nothing negative to say about the software. I can't speak to how Egnyte Connect would operate in a midsize company or even a large Fortune 500 company, but, from our perspective as a small business, it is fantastic.""Egnyte Connect is a great application to save files.""It is a good storage solution.""You can really do a lot of cool things with it in terms of being able to co-author and share documents with users that are not in your organization.""It is scalable and stable.""It provides a way to granularly choose which folders from the internet you want to sync to your computer. It is really useful for people who are working on teams that are working with files that are frequently changing. You can go in and pretty clearly see what changes have been made. It gives you a constant feed."

Cons
"The room for improvement is in the area of integrations. They need to establish more integrations, especially with Office 365 and Outlook.""With OneDrive, you can continuously save your files over a Box folder. That is something I wish we could have.""The search features and role permissions are not very user friendly. It only searches the first few pages of a document, which is quite a problem.""Data privacy, regarding where to store your data: Offering several transparent(!) options (where to store my data and whether to sync back or not and where to sync) regarding the local law situations (USA, EU, Switzerland!) would increase the credibility of a US based company (after NSA ‘snooping’).""Improvements in speed - Box's high level of security impacts performance, especially when compared with other similar services.""I find their API to be quite complex and it could be more straightforward.""The UI should be faster. Sometimes it lags when switching between documents.""The solution's data security should be improved."

More Box Cons →

"Before, when we were starting to use Egnyte, we were struggling with a lot of bugs with Egnyte desktop sync.""It would be nice to see an integration of using an active directory to validate and authenticate users on our end as well as on the client user's end.""If this solution had a better ability to search, that would be helpful. In addition, if there was an ability to collaborate, that would also be a benefit. At present, the vision control is had because if someone gets out of it, it locks. And, whoever saves last overrides everyone's work.""You cannot delete a file when you have uploaded it in error.""As of right now, I have everything that I and my team need.""The issue of my authorization token expiring pretty quickly was pretty annoying. On pretty much every update, it would expire on every computer. On every computer update, at the first opportunity, it would expire. When my computer got updated or the authorization got cut, my saved drives would get messed up. So, I had to reconnect them all. I was never able to set up a useful drive system with my local computer with Egnyte Connect. It would be a big improvement if there was a cached system so that when it loses connection, it can still save what kind of connections were set up, and when it reconnects, it repopulates all those. I don't know if that's even possible, but that's the feature I'd want."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing may seem steep at first, but delve into the features and you'll soon realize it is incredible value for what you get."
  • "It is expensive per head, as you need the enterprise license to get full security and tools. So negotiate a discount!"
  • "Better sign a full year's contract to get a discount."
  • "I'm in Higher Ed, so we purchase through Internet2-Net+. I absolutely recommend going that route for Higher Ed customers."
  • "A business account has a minimum of three users. If you are more than three people in-house, go for the Enterprise version. All the external users are free of charge."
  • "Our pricing and licensing is excellent. I'd tell all Higher Ed customers to talk with Internet2 for excellent pricing and support."
  • "I believe Box is cheaper than SharePoint."
  • "They are very price competitive when pushed. Initially, they come out with a standard list price, but they are willing to be very competitive. The Box price was pretty much equal to or lower than the Citrix price, and Box has more features."

  • "I do not have experience with the pricing of this solution."
  • "As far as I understand, licenses are associated with the Egnyte platform. There aren't any licenses associated with Egnyte Connect."

Box has made it easier for people to securely share ideas, collaborate and get work done faster. Today, more than 62,000 businesses, including 59% of the Fortune 500, trust Box to manage content in the cloud.

The Box platform provides HIPAA, FINRA, FedRAMP, and many other compliances to go with granular access permissions and advanced security capabilities.

By using Box you can sync, share, and collaborate on all types of files, anywhere, on any device - but that's just the beginning. You can choose where to store your data, to manage your own encryption keys, and set workflows to automate content-based processes. You can also assign custom metadata tags to content, watermark sensitive content, and set file retention or legal hold policies.

Box has deep, native integrations with Microsoft Office and Outlook, Google Apps for Work, Salesforce, Netsuite, Docusign, Adobe, and many other best-of-breed solutions you may already be using.

Egnyte is a hybrid cloud storage service that provides online file sharing, file transfer, and cross-office syncing solutions to small, medium, and large businesses. The company specializes in providing businesses with customizable solutions using both cloud-only technology and local storage. Businesses using Egnyte's services benefit from increased efficiency, reliable security, and removal of communication barriers. Egnyte, like many of its competitors, features customizable services that help businesses stay organized and productive while maintaining a high level of security. In order to provide uninterrupted levels of security, Egnyte only allows access to files though certificate-based trusted devices via a two-step login verification process. Egnyte offers businesses control over its services with the ability to monitor use and access information through a single, user-friendly control panel, which is accessible in any web browser. The Egnyte platform is able to integrate with local storage, providing businesses with the option of using cloud-based storage or local devices, depending upon security preferences. Companies with satellite locations or remote employees benefit from Egnyte's flexible deployment models, scalable file sharing, and high speed collaboration capabilities regardless of changes in bandwidth limitations across locations. Additionally, Egnyte's platform makes use of hybrid storage synchronization, which reduces bandwidth saturation and increases performance. Egnyte appeals to growing businesses because it offers customizable services and flexible file sharing solutions. Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty, with over 275 agents and employees spread throughout the Atlanta metro area, was struggling to increase the efficiency of staff communication. After working with Egnyte, Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby's International Realty was able to develop a hybrid file sharing infrastructure that allowed for the syncing and sharing of large files, protection of confidential information, and a reduction in bandwidth use.
