We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Predictive analysis is a valued feature.""The technical support is fantastic, and they are fast to respond.""The most valuable features of OpsRamp include a single pane of glass, event correlation, personalized dashboards, and a single platform solution.""The feature we found most valuable in OpsRamp is alert generation because whenever there is any kind of spike on any virtual machine, the solution generates alerts based on the thresholds we implemented. We have integrated our ideas and tools with OpsRamp, so alerts are generated, then we notify the customers. That's the main feature we like about OpsRamp because we don't have to monitor each resource. Instead, OpsRamp does the monitoring for us, and it generates the alerts based on the thresholds.""It greatly assists small and medium-sized businesses in using the ITSM, alerting, and monitoring features.""The feature that we have found most useful are the dashboards, which can be built in minutes using this solution, allowing multiple products, thresholds, or any given required metric to be seen in a single area.""We find the products seamless integration with Zendesk to be extremely valuable to our business.""The most valuable feature of OpsRamp is the creation of the dashboards of the infrastructure for the CPU memory and SQL servers. Additionally, URL monitoring through Selenium scripting and the availability dashboard is useful."

"PRTG gives us true visibility of the downtime of particular circuit functions. So if a circuit is up but not routing traffic, I will know with this tool. I can write a customized script for a sensor to detect specific things.""The most valuable feature of PRTG Network Monitor is the dashboards. We can check to see the resources and the uptime.""The installation is not that complex.""One of the valuable features is the diversity of metrics available to us to monitor. It's all there, it's all in the box. It's all made very easy, by virtue of it being pre-configured.""The scalability is good. You can improve a remote host or the clustering. This gives it the flexibility to monitor another infrastructure remotely.""The initial setup was easy. We didn't have any issues with the process and everything rolled out smoothly.""It is great for service level agreements and can comply fully with internet monitoring or any interface.""The most valuable features of PRTG Network Monitor are the threshold notification when certain traffic increases and goes beyond the defined threshold. The up and down status email notifications and other notifications are useful. Additionally, it is user-friendly, and customizable, and there are many features available."

Cons
"Automation is currently quite complex and needs to be improved.""What's lacking in OpsRamp is process automation, and if there is, I wish there could be more of it, other than just spikes, or it would be better if the alerts can be generated based on different matrices. That option is absent in OpsRamp at the moment, and it would be valuable if that could be provided in the solution, especially if there's any kind of security issue in the VM.""The function to search any particular device within this solution needs to be improved. Currently, the solution develops a lag when a search, or a comparison, is being carried out.""An area of improvement would be application monitoring.""OpsRamp cannot be scaled for big and large company deployments.""We have 55 AVDs, and patches might roll out to 32-35 initially, with the rest taking a month or so. OpsRamp can't detect them all directly. Since clients want patches applied as soon as possible, we manually patch those remaining devices.""We would like this solution to be developed into a full CMP tool, so that we are able to use a single product for all of our cloud management needs.""I would like to see two things. The first is a self-service portal for the cloud, any cloud deployments, and the second is maturity validation towards ITSM, internalizing OpsRamp TSM. As a result, instead of integrating with more mature tools similar to ServiceNow, people will use OpsRamp."

More OpsRamp Cons →

"The scalability of this solution could improve as well as the automated provisioning of the infrastructure.""PRTG's application monitoring sensor is not strong.""In our organization, we encounter performance issues with our PRTG probe service. I saw documentation from the vendor or Paessler mentioning that there are limitations for WMI sensors. Other than that, we are okay with PRTG.""PRTG Network Monitor can improve the reports. In the reports, you have to give an alert for that SMS and email, the emergency calls and downtimes have to be reported accordingly. You have to enable email services or an SMS gateway service to receive more alerts at the proper time.""There seems to be a big jump from the basic scan to the really thorough scan. There is a big jump in the quantity of sensors it uses for certain things. One minute you might get ten and then the next you get 200. There seems to be a big jump between the two at times.""Mostly, this software has sensors for devices to monitor specs and you can build or develop or modify various sensors, according to your company's needs. But you may need to do that with coding or plugins or with the support of Paessler AG, the manufacturer.""I would like to see a more robust platform and a new dashboard. In addition, the code is good, but it needs improvement.""There is room for improvement in this solution for the performance and third-party monitoring protocols. They need to be updated to the latest ones."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
