We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The ability to create custom dashboards is one of the best features and that's typically why most people deploy Splunk. Users can create dashboards for just about anything.""It is very easy to monitor multiple cloud environments. It's like a single pane of glass for us. We can use it to monitor our on-prem and both of our cloud environments as opposed to having different tools for each environment. It makes it all come together in one tool.""Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring gives us complete visibility without the need for storage.""The product retains a lot of log data for subsequent analysis.""The vibrant dashboards are valuable.""Great monitoring of network devices.""It is a great resource for us because we have so many different data sources and to be able to aggregate that and put it through a concise dashboard or an alert really helps.""The most valuable feature in this solution is the log searching."

"I have found that the reporting feature in Zabbix is most valuable. Additionally, the solution has given us bandwidth options, we are able to see where problems are. For example, we noticed a problem that occurred because of a bad interface going in the wireless VLAN.""They've already added extra features, such as noise-canceling and facial recognition, which is great.""The solution's design has recently changed and it is visually pleasing with more color, for example, there is blue, black, and white.""The solution allows you to configure and customize how you want to collect information from servers or other systems.""It can send messages to our ticketing system.""The most valuable features are the monitoring and the ease with which we can set it up at customer sites with our custom Zabbix proxy and tools.""SNMP monitoring, source discovery, and alert triggering are most valuable.""The most valuable feature is service assurance."

Cons
"The end-to-end visibility is lacking because Splunk cannot directly monitor network devices.""The solution should have more sensors regarding fiber intelligence for security measures.""They do not have all the features that I expect right now.""The clustering part of indexes can be more refined.""We have both on-prem and cloud, and the challenge is getting all our log data aggregated or streams aggregated so that it is real-time. We do a pretty good job of that, but our organization is not using it as a security platform when it can do a great job of that.""The product collects a lot of data but it does not assure that it collects all of it.""The implementation can be more user-friendly.""This solution is difficult to configure and the instructions are complex."

More Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring Cons →

"Outside of the normal standard monitoring, I would like to extend patching, importing patching, and supporting patching for Windows Servers.""Implementing Zabbix is difficult. I've deployed many solutions over the years, and Zabbix is the hardest to implement. You have to do some development to get it to work with IBM, Micro Focus, or HP products.""Zabbix is powerful, but it is difficult to understand initially. There are many things that can be improved, but we might not be using Zabbix to its fullest extent. The software has more features than we need.""It should be easy to modify the front end.""As far as improvements, sometimes I get a bit frustrated when I move from a previous version to a new one because some configuration has changed—I need to investigate the documentation to deal with some configuration. But it doesn't take much time, so it's okay.""We would like to see the addition of automatic push functionality to this product. This would save time when monitoring our servers and networks as, at present, we have to manually install the Zabbix agent on any hardware to be monitored.""It could be more stable.""An area for improvement would be the ease of doing aggregation from the value or different devices."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
