We performed a comparison between Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Data Platform based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Backup and Recovery solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Sandbox feature is like a power tool for troubleshooting."
"It's fairly easy to manage and set up."
"My customers find the backup and recovery ease of use is the most beneficial feature."
"The product allows us to use data more efficiently, reducing the cost of storage and backup time. It is vital to have data available in the shortest possible time."
"The solution is easy to use and have good performance."
"The product is very simple in its design. We don't need it to perform complicated tasks."
"The initial setup was very easy."
"While I do not recall whether the latest version is 10.0 or 11.0 I do know that it allows one to make a back up repository that is very scalable and simple."
"Veeam Data Platform copies data very efficiently."
"The solution is quite easy to configure."
"It provides a much better user experience compared to other vendors. It works faster as well."
"Backup and restore features are valuable."
"One of the newest features in version 12.1 is malware detection. This feature allows the software to detect malware before initiating a backup job for a server. Although I haven't had the opportunity to personally try it out due to its recent release, I came across it while working on an environment in a cluster for a customer."
"The platform has a useful disaster recovery feature."
"The most valuable data protection features in Veeam are encryption and error handling."
"When it comes to service cases, I would choose Veeam Data Platform over Commvault because restoring from Commvault can be time-consuming due to filtering tasks. Veeam Data Platform, on the other hand, offers a much simpler and faster restore process."
"I think Veeam needs to improve the file installation process, as well as more technical things like snapping feature issues. Sometimes during backup, when it's taking the scan snaps on the ESXi, it started and didn't remove the snapshot from there, which consumed storage on the EXSi. It could be improved with more technical depth. The response time for Veeam's technical support could also be improved."
"We try to compare Veeam with other solutions because we are the operations. Then we can give the answers for improvement which is the specific additional system features that other solutions provide."
"Some support replies for a broken backup task have been "rebuild the job from scratch" and this is a bad thing to do if you have many VMs and repositories."
"I would like to see the replication and a recovery plan of the servers in the cloud. It's very important."
"The product is missing some commonsense features and tools for an enterprise backup recovery product,"
"It would be nice if it could be integrated with third-party solutions like ours. It has been supporting just Windows and virtual machines."
"Limited support for environments other than VMware or Microsoft."
"They have an integration with MS SQL, and you have to license MS SQL. This is something they need to change. They should go for an open-source database or a free SQL because you're already buying this product, and you shouldn't have to buy another product."
"Enhancing the level of automation in IT processes would be beneficial."
"Setting up for my case was completely different. There were some product-level bugs that caused a lot of challenges for Veeam Data Platform. So, it took a while."
"There might be room for improvement at the plugin level, specifically concerning application plugins."
"The product's pricing is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"They could offer a hardware appliance as a comprehensive, full-stack solution."
"The solution's pricing may be expensive compared to other products."
"Apart from security improvements, enhancing compatibility with various platforms and addressing limitations related to integration and verification would be beneficial."
"Veeam does image-based backups, whether it be of virtual machines or physical workloads, and they are able to back up general applications like Active Directory, SQL, Exchange, or SharePoint. Sometimes, even Oracle and SAP. But still, there are many customers using other types of databases that Veeam does not natively support. For example, in the Linux area, MySQL and PostgreSQL are supported, but with many limitations. Like, if a customer is running a Postgres cluster, Veeam does not support that."
