Q&A Highlights
Question: Which is better - Signavio Process Manager or Celonis?
Answer: SAP Signavio Process Manager is a very robust industrial-grade business process modeling tool. It is easy to use and does not require too much technological involvement. This solution has a collaboration tool that keeps everyone up-to-date about what, why, and how to work. The workflow accelerator can automate repetitive work, ensuring teams can be more productive over time. The reporting on this solution can be slow, though, and SAP Signavio does not integrate very well with other solutions. We experienced some downtime and dropped connections, which makes the stability seem problematic. It would be better if it was more flexible on the customization point of view, where it displays only what the individual user needs to see. There needs to be a better way to give users correct permissions, eg. whether to design or view. Celonis is a very strong and powerful solution. It can process a large amount of data quickly and seamlessly. This solution is very intuitive and very easy to use. Celonis has a data mining tool that can identify cost differentials. It will also gather background data from different solutions and put it into the dashboard to review the price differences from previous seasons. Celonis can be very rigid and we would like it to be more flexible - it has some very strong structures that must be followed. The licensing model can be complex too. You need to have a lot of knowledge and skill to work with this solution. It really should allow for more customization to ease the process of working with multiple solutions. Conclusion Celonis is very specific to process mining and that is what it is best used for. You need to have a knowledgeable team, as this solution can be very tough to implement. It can also be very expensive. We were looking for a solution that was easy to use, was cost-effective for the size of our enterprise, and had a great performance. SAP Signavio Process Manager was the best fit for us.

Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The process mapping is most valuable to us.""Celonis’ Process Cockpit is valuable.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the PTS service.""For the amount of information that it processes, it works relatively fast. I like the visual presentation and the interface is intuitive. I also like that Celonis has a learning academy.""The solution has very detailed documentation for technical items so it is very easy for developers to use.""We use the tool for supply chain transformation. The tool has helped us find the bottlenecks in the supply chain like where the delay occurred in delivery, payment, etc. We had to extract two years' of data from the SAP system and an internal tool. We fed the data into Celonis and it created a process map for us with hundreds of variations. It has helped us see where exactly the bottleneck was. The tool has also helped us generate a lot of reviews and KPIs. It has helped us to find the problem and the remedy through process optimization.""Action Flows are good.""Celonis' best feature is a new one called Action Flow, an enhanced version of earlier automation features with lots of integration options with other systems so you can access third-party systems and automate some actions there too."

"The most valuable feature for me is the collaboration point of view, where everybody has a single view, or source of truth, and everybody sees the same thing. Everyone can comment, contribute, and discuss the processes itself, which makes it easier to funnel down the most value adding comments and make the relevant changes to the processes. This leads to the next best iteration or version of your process.""I use SAP Signavio Process Manager to model processes to the former operating model.""All in all, Signavio usability is excellent. Anyone can learn to use the tool quickly. This increases acceptance as employees are not facing a high learning curve. With the offered usability it is easy to model processes also live in workshops.""One of the most valuable features is ease of use which has really been a good thing to put into the business. People like tools that they can just pick up and use straight-away.""This solution is innovative and simple to use.""I really like the Collaboration Hub because it's so easy to communicate. And what is really important is that you can use it asynchronously. It doesn't matter if you're working in Italy or in America. You are using the same process and you can speak about the same process.""The solution provides data mining and AI features.""I like the collaboration and the real-time aspects of it."

Cons
"Similar to what SAP is doing with S/4HANA, Celonis should allow business users to create their own analytics tab. In my previous organization, business analysts were the only ones who were actively building these reports with Celonis, whereas SAP platforms are now allowing the business users to create their own reports with graphics and all other things based on the data that is presented. This is one thing that Celonis needs. Currently, just the technical teams are doing that. Sometimes, when we were looking at five years of data, it used to take up to 3 seconds. It wasn't bad, but we had to wait a little bit. It probably also had to do with the server. I don't know if it can be used on mobile devices. If not, that will be the way to go. They should mobilize it to allow people to see these reports on their mobile devices.""We would like this solution to be more flexible in how it interacts with other cloud-based database solutions, so that we can operate more seamlessly.""In the next release, I would like for them to integrate more custom features to ease the process of having multiple solutions. I would like to be able to integrate it with other solutions.""I would really appreciate it if Celonis had significant compatibility with robotic process automation solutions. Once they define the process and understand it, streamline it, optimize it, and take inputs around it. When they reconfigure the process, there should be good compatibility with any of the automation tools, wherein I can integrate for robotic process automation, where I can streamline many of these processes on the application itself. Today, I need to extract this process and reload it into other tools, like UiPath, to integrate them with Automation Anywhere. If this tool can provide that efficiency, that would be great. I'm a data analytics guy. I lead a data analytics team. So technically, I would primarily look at if this can give me a visualization opportunity and integrate that in terms of the data.""Another area of improvement is implementation. So, in future releases, I would like to see a more streamlined implementation process would be appreciated, making it less time-consuming and more efficient.""The solution must be more user-friendly.""Lacks a couple of algorithms that can better identify bottlenecks and provide a better view of them.""The solution needs to implement more automation aspects into the product. Right now, it's lacking."

More Celonis Cons →

"Signavio already offers a wonderful range of functions. If variant management and customer journeys are optimized, Signavio can definitely bask in the glory of BPM tools. We also see optimization potential in the management of licenses, e.g. no named users but rather floating licenses and integration into the company's active directory.""There is a need for more varied access packages. The access packages that I have used are not cheap enough. They also provide a complete set of tools that are not always used. Sometimes, you need more segregated things, e.g., Signavio includes functionality for a company that has not yet matured. Since there are no basic packages, the company must pay for a package that is not fully used. Typically, process management is started in a company of a certain maturity.""I think the intuitive handling is an issue which they should be more focused on, especially as we have issues with the glossary. If you want to implement Signavio within procedures in contact with other software, it's quite difficult to integrate and you will have several points where you have to double and triple the work, because you cannot maintain the data centrally. With other solutions, we can integrate it and have only one data transfer, to import and export with other solutions. A glossary is still limiting us.""It is difficult to quickly digest the vast power of the suite and make use of those capabilities fully.""If you're going to use the tool the way I'm using it, which is to work with businesses and capture what they're thinking, it would be helpful to be able to insert other objects onto a diagram.""The workflow automation of the solution is an area of concern where improvements are required.""The price can be made cheaper.""The performance metrics appearing in the collaboration hub needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is quite a significant investment. From a cost perspective, they need to reevaluate the licensing model. The cost is justified, but they need to make the licensing model slightly different."
  • "Evaluating the price of the solution can be a difficult question. It is all about the business case and the return of the investments. That is typically how we also see this type of solution. It depends very much on the return. The entry-level is focused on enterprise size companies, for the SMB segment is it is out of their range. It is definitely expensive."
  • "I was not involved in that, but I am sure it was cost-effective for them. That's why they made the decision to take it."
  • "The cost of the software for us or the client is on the higher end."
  • "The solution requires an annual license. There is room for improvement because it is priced for organizations and not for individuals. For an individual, it would be too expensive for them to use it."
  • "Celonis is expensive. It's not for mid or low-sized enterprises because the license price is high. Overall, it's quite pricey compared to anything else that I have heard about. But the good thing is that they don't charge per user. They charge for the data model."
  • "Celonis offers free learning possibilities. I am using the free version of Celonis."
  • "It is an expensive solution."

  • "Lower than the competition with highly flexible licensing plans."
  • "My client purchased one editor license and the collaboration hub, which covers up to a hundred people."
  • "I think that the price of the licenses is between $2,000 USD and $3,000 USD per license per year, plus the hub usage. I cannot remember the exact cost, but it is affordable."
  • "I think we're spending about $150,000 a year on licensing costs."
  • "SaaS has no setup cost, just licensing fees."
  • "This solution provides really great value for the money."
  • "We are only able to use the free academic licenses because we have a financial constraint. We are not able to pay for commercial licenses to use this kind of tool."
  • "Although Signavio is a feature-rich solution, it is expensive for companies who haven’t reached a certain maturity level in their process management initiatives."
