We performed a comparison between Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) and Odin Virtuozzo Containers based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Dell Technologies, VMware, Nutanix and others in HCI."It has allowed me to effectively and confidently manage the maintenance of hosts where I can power off a host and have its VMs migrate to another one."
"It has improved our organization in terms of its uptime as our main cluster has never been offline due to a SAN failure."
"Using our own choice of HW allowed us to price our service to answer our customers' needs."
"The price was right."
"The StarWind products have enabled our organization to modernize stations where larger and more expensive equipment was not an option."
"The top-notch support before, during, and after deployments are better than any other vendor I have come across."
"StarWind vSAN has allowed us to leverage our server infrastructure more completely without the need to add more hardware."
"We are able to execute maintenance on one server while the other is still running."
"A lot of features are there, but for us, on the server administration side, creating a clone of the VM is valuable because many times, we have to deploy security patches. For deploying these patches, it helps to have a clone so that if something goes wrong, we can discard that VM and put back the clone VM. That is a very cool feature."
"Nutanix has the best virtual desktop infrastructure."
"Management is simple"
"The product is easy to manage."
"Simplified management: It provides us more time to work on other tasks."
"The stability is good. This is the number-one product in that regard."
"The most valuable feature is the integration of all parts in Prism Element, the browser-based management tool."
"You need to send commands through the command-line interface(CLI). This could be improved. The commands are done better in VMware."
"When you run templates on the containers on Virtuozzo they have a lot of back-ups."
"The product can include a more simple way of synchronization after a forced shutdown as the current process has a few more steps to check that hosts have synchronized and this can be automated."
"The documentation could be clearer in terms of explaining the installation."
"While it is possible to implement disk encryption in StarWind using Windows Bitlocker, such a solution can be a little tricky to manage."
"I want to suggest that the complexity of the startup and shutdown procedure needs to be reduced."
"We have, in rare cases, received conflicting guidance between different support folks within StarWind."
"Feature-wise we are only waiting for the release of a "planned disaster" feature that would allow us to patch a hypervisor node without having to take the full storage offline."
"I would like to see some additional, and possibly clearer, implementation videos with some slower and possibly more detailed descriptions of what the various steps of implementation are for someone who is unfamiliar with high availability and failover clustering in Windows."
"Some configuration options still demand service restarting."
"They have offered some new features that I have not deployed so I assume that these issues might have been addressed already, but, at my time there was a networking problem."
"There should be a little more access to Nutanix files."
"One disadvantage of Nutanix Acropolis AOS is it doesn't support external storage. Connecting external SAN storage to Nutanix, it's not supported."
"The product needs improvement in the areas of SAN attachment for high capacity and high I/O profile workloads."
"The one note of improvement I have for Nutanix is that the installation should be easier."
"We ran into an issue as a managed service provider because Acropolis isn't designed to be used the way we are running it. For example, if we want to deploy a Kubernetes service, the customer networks need to reach our protected cluster network. We have isolated our customers in separate VLANs. However, our customers' networks must access our cluster network to get features like iSCSI or Kubernetes to run. It's challenging."
"It is a CentOS-based operating system, but CentOS releases security patches almost every week or every other week. However, Nutanix releases their upgrade at three or four month intervals. According to my organization's SLA, if a critical patch is released during that time, then I need to implement the patches within 30 days. If it is a standard patch, then I need to patch it within 60 days. Since that is my SLA, I cannot meet my SLA for security because Nutanix will not release the upgrade within these 30 days. Between the critical patch release and the Nutanix release, my customers say they are vulnerable and I am accepting the risk while the SLA is breached."
"USB dongle-based licenses do not allow us to directly locate the USB ports on Nutanix."
"Odin Virtuozzo has poor support and needs to improve."
