We performed a comparison between Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks and Trend Micro Smart Protection based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Endpoint Protection Platform (EPP) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Impressive detection capabilities"
"The console is easy to read. I also like the scanning part and the ability to move assets from one to the other."
"The setup is pretty simple."
"NGAV and EDR features are outstanding."
"It notifies us if there's any suspicious file on any PC. If any execution or similar kind of thing is happening, it just alerts us. It doesn't only alert. It also blocks the execution until we allow it. We check whether the execution is legitimate or not, and then approve it or keep it blocked. This gives us a little bit of control over this mechanism. Fortinet FortiEDR is also very straightforward and easy to maintain."
"The ease of deployment and configuration is valuable. It's very easy compared to other vendors like Sophos. Sophos' configuration is complex. Fortinet is a lot easier to understand. You don't need a lot of admin knowledge to do the configuration."
"This is stable and scalable."
"Fortinet FortiEDR made our clients feel secure and more at ease, knowing that they had an EDR solution that would close the gap in their security posture."
"The solution allows control over the user and his machine through Cortex XDR security policies."
"It integrates well into the environment."
"After deploying Traps, we saw the performance of the network improve by 65 to 70 percent."
"Palo Alto is constantly adding new features."
"They have a new GUI which is just fantastic."
"Since they've done their most recent update, the ease to isolate endpoints is valuable. If we find one where there is a virus on it, we can easily isolate it. We don't even have to contact the user. We don't have to manually take them off the network. We can easily isolate them."
"We can visualize and control the activities in the environment from anywhere."
"Monitoring is most valuable."
"The most valuable features of Trend Micro Smart Protection are the email gateway and R & D which have contributed to their additional capability and development."
"Trend Micro is easy to use and it has good security features."
"The configuration is easy."
"The solution has multiple modules within a single agent deployment."
"Your workstation doesn't slow down, unlike when you use Symantec, for example."
"The scalability works well."
"The solution gives users peace of mind that, form an endpoint perspective, they are protected once it is installed."
"What I like the most is the customer pricing because it's a great value."
"We'd like to see more one-to-one product presentations for the distribution channels."
"There's room for improvement in the quick response time and technical support for integration issues, especially when dealing with multiple vendors."
"They can include the automation for the realtime updates. We have a network infrastructure with remote sites. Whenever they send updates, they are not automated. We have to go into the console and push those updates. I wish it was more automated. The update file is currently around 31 MB. It could be smaller."
"FortiEDR could add a separate scanning dashboard. In incident management, we prefer to remove the endpoint system from the environment and scan the system. We typically use Symantec for that, but if we want to use FortiEDR for that, then we need a scanning tab to clarify things."
"ZTNA can improve latency."
"I think cloud security and SASE are areas of concern in the product where improvements are required. The tool's cloud version has to be improved in terms of the security it offers."
"I haven't seen the use of AI in the solution."
"Intelligence aspects need improvement"
"Managing the product should be easier."
"The product's pricing needs improvement. They could provide more discounts. Additionally, the dashboard and control panel could be enhanced."
"In general, the price could be more competitive."
"Cortex XDR is trickier to configure than other Palo Alto products. This is one area where we are not so satisfied."
"Cortex XDR could be improved with more GUI features."
"It's very time-consuming to log support issues and the people that answer the tickets aren't very knowledgeable."
"It is not very strong in terms of endpoint management. It should have additional features like DLP, encryption, or advanced device control. Currently, Cortex is good in terms of the security of the endpoints, but it is not as good as other vendors in terms of the management of the endpoint."
"Impact on system performance is horrible, adding a lot of delays for users."
"We found an issue on the server-side. Sometimes, it slows down the servers if you install it on the SQL."
"Some functionalities within the DLP can be improved."
"This product is not very simple and in fact, kind of hard for some people to understand."
"In the next release, I would like to see a combination of the different features from Apex One and OfficeScan in Trend Micro Smart, rather than as upgraded features."
"Documentation-wise, they are a disaster. If you want to know something about Trend Micro, you will not find anything useful from Trend Micro themselves. You have to basically dig some blog, or you need to seek some expert to help you understand what they are offering. I have never seen such a good product with such disastrous documentation. Feature-wise, almost all vendors are providing the same features, but it is all about the integration. For example, Trend Micro is promoting their endpoint protection suite, but they never mention about the integration that they are offering with their EDR solution. They are treating each product as a separate island, and you don't know much about their integration. It would be good if they can focus on integration."
"The threat response could be a bit better."
"The solution needs to improve the deployment so it aligns with the latest Microsoft patches and upgrades. It makes the deployment process lengthy and painful."
"Trend Micro Smart Protection could improve automatic scanning because sometimes it pops up when I am doing my work. It would be helpful to have a feature to have it only automatically scan when the system is on standby mode. I would be able to be more efficient with my work. Additionally, security could improve."
