We performed a comparison between Auvik Network Management (ANM) and SCOM based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Network Monitoring Software solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."
"The most valuable feature in Auvik is that it lets us know when a network is down. It lets us know right away and we can find out what's causing it: whether it's the firewall, an AP, or there's a whole network outage. It makes things easier by giving us an "eye in the sky" when we're not on the site. It's great for monitoring."
"The cloud monitoring portion of Auvik that provides visibility into each piece of my infrastructure is the most valuable feature."
"The most advantageous feature is the ability to back up the configuration settings on switches and routers."
"The network flow piece is the most useful. We can identify the busiest parts of the network based on the reporting from the switches about what is utilizing the most bandwidth on specific switch ports. I can narrow down which segments of the network might be having issues."
"The network discovery feature allows us to put in a subnet and have the software automatically detect all devices connected to that subnet."
"Auvik is easy to use. The first thing you see when you open it up is a map of the United States or wherever you are, and it shows the locations of all of your network endpoints. For discovery, you set credentials and manage the credentials and it tells you when it needs a new credential. So you just click the "Manage Credentials" button and it takes you to the right spot. You enter in a new credential and then it starts looking closer at the device. It can give you all kinds of information from inside the device's log. We use it for CIS logs and we use it for just regular logging. The CIS log was something I was looking for in the other products, just so we have a place for the CIS logs to congregate so we can look them up."
"The stability is rock solid."
"The most valuable features include the inventory management and alerting capabilities."
"The solution is scalable. If you want to monitor more you have to buy more licenses, but you can add on. We don't plan to increase usage."
"This is a product that does more generally than any of the competing solutions."
"This solution allows us to standardize all of the reports for monitoring the network, so it helps a lot for auditing purposes."
"We have found the scalability capabilities to be okay."
"Availability monitoring is the feature I have found most valuable, as well as the capacity and ability to send notifications."
"It works better than other products I’ve used – namely SolarWinds, which is cumbersome and error prone for web app monitoring. SCOM is not."
"The stability has been great."
"It has good graphs of what is going on within the operating system."
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."
"One drawback I found with Auvik was its inability to generate clear network diagrams."
"They can improve its monitoring capabilities for the physical servers or operating systems. At the moment, they do have some visibility. Even though you don't buy Auvik for monitoring your servers, and it is more for network monitoring, it would be nice if they can do end-to-end monitoring so that you don't have to use a different tool for operating system monitoring. You can get all the information from Auvik."
"We had some issues with the licensing. You need to pay for premium to use NetFlow, and we had a problem with them counting the same device multiple times for licensing purposes. It was a little frustrating because the Auvik database in the background didn't see it as a single device even though it came from the same critical hardware and only had one serial number. However, it was in different groups, so it was counted two or three times. It took a while to work with the accounting team to get that sorted."
"The general feature set could use some work. For network mapping and network alerting, it's great for what it does. But it could provide more monitoring, such as jitter monitoring, which it doesn't have, and round-trip time for packets. I would like to see more network detail on the actual traffic that's flowing through the network."
"I like the auto-mapping feature, but I would like to see more layouts and predefined views."
"Navigating around the map on more complex networks is pretty painful if you're showing endpoints. I know there are filters to knock it down, but sometimes that's not enough. It handles like 'early-90s Java.'"
"The ability to subcategorize our inventories, between physical and VM servers, for example, would be a welcome addition."
"Auvik could be more customizable. Also, the network map isn't as clear as it could be. I don't know if it's even possible, but it would be nice if Auvik could pick up on dumb switches. I don't know if that's possible based on SNMP, but if they can figure out a way to do that, it would make our life much easier."
"It lacks certain details that other products do better, like granular access and better application monitoring."
"It would be a much better product if Microsoft provided management packs with the product."
"Then there is also an issue with capacity and limited space. That is something that needs to be improved."
"On-prem network monitoring is something that could be improved drastically."
"The end-user components, including the dashboards, the administration console, and the web console, need to be improved."
"The solution should have more tools for monitoring the cloud engine versus on-premise."
"I would like to better be able to monitor Oracle processes."
"I would like to see them improve their network monitoring."
