Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Great archive feature, OnePass, for the file system and Exchange servers.""The most important feature is that everything can be controlled using a single console.""The product has the best features for scaling up and administering all the solutions from a single platform.""It's easy to configure multiple jobs and media agent locations for each server. We do offsite backups for all of our servers, but we also do onsite hourly backups of them. That has benefited us several times when we had an incident and didn't want to roll back a server an entire day.""Complete Data Protection is convenient because you can manage various types of databases, and it's pretty easy to set it up.""The solution's interface is easy to use. For manageability, it doesn't matter where the resource is coming from or going to. That's the great power of the Control Panel: It's easy to use and does not matter if you manage on-prem or cloud resources.""A very stable and scalable platform (you can backup/restore/protect a couple of MBs or hundred of TBs as well from the same console/platform).""Cloud integration."

"Hyper-convergence gives me the ability to patch my firmware, software, and hypervisors with a single click. That is extremely useful.""It offers synchronous data replication, allowing us to sync our recovery data every hour and efficiently send applications to remote sites.""It is a very secure and scalable solution, and their support is also outstanding.""The solution is stable.""We haven't needed anyone to maintain or deploy the solution. The traditional Nutanix administrator can administer the solution.""The tool's most valuable feature is ease of use."

Cons
"Commvault HyperScale X is more expensive for hybrid environments than traditional solutions.""They can always improve the interface design to make it easier. Sometimes, you need to click two or three times to do something. They should look at what tabs are used most and make them more accessible, to cut the time it takes to get to that information.""The local support could be improved.""They can improve the VMware recovery and VMware backup. There is an improvement area on the VMware infrastructure. They can make available what they call a VSA proxy. They can have an appliance-type setup to deploy VSA backups and help recover quicker. They can have an appliance ready. Instead of having to have a server dedicated to that and installing software on a server, they can just provide an actual appliance for that.""Commvault is complex even if the product has comprehensive solutions and covers pretty much every technology out there. There's no unified way to manage all of the products on one single console.""This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it.""The product does not provide an option to save a copy of data on-premises.""Its dashboard could be improved to provide a summarized version of all the jobs instead of having to go through each one of them. We should easily be able to glance at all issues. If I had not gone with the on-premise version, I would have had regular reports with the cloud version. It would be an advantage if they increase the compression rate of the backup. I am keeping it on-prem, so I'll need more disks depending on the policies that I have in the retention period. Its price could also be lower. If a good solution can be cheaper, it is always an advantage."

"The product is more costly than other platforms. The price could be better.""I think that Nutanix should support public clouds instead of the Nutanix data centers.""The solution needs improvement in cost.""They need better reporting on the environment.""The pricing could be better.""For moving the data for DR, we are using Megaport. We are using a Megaport link between the data centers, so we have a third party for the site-to-site connectivity between the data centers. If such connectivity is available from the Nutanix side, it would be helpful for us."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."

  • "Besides the license, there are additional costs with the network connection. The customer may want a direct connection between the two data centers and that has an extra cost."
  • "I always want it to be cheaper."
  • "One-time costs may initially seem high, but they reflect the quality of the service received."
  • "It is a little bit cheaper than the other products in the market. It is affordable."
