We performed a comparison between Juniper SRX Series Firewall and Palo Alto Networks K2-Series based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."FortiGate firewalls are easy to manage through a user-friendly web interface. They also have advanced features like DDoS and DLP. However, I wouldn't recommend enabling all of these features on one device because it can cause performance issues."
"We are very happy with the general bandwidth agility we have seen from one website to another website."
"Good performance, stability, and virtual domain ability."
"The main reason why I purchased the particular unit was that it had good reviews and what other people were saying as far as its completeness and its leading capabilities in terms of endpoint security was very good."
"The solution is stable."
"Customers want to load balance more than eight lines or six internet lines. FortiGate is the only solution that can accomplish this."
"The virtual firewall feature is the most valuable. We have around 1,500 firewalls. We did not buy individual hardware, and the virtual firewalls made sense because we don't have to keep on buying the hardware. FortiGate is easier to use as compared to Checkpoint devices. It is user friendly and has a good UI. You don't need much expertise to work on this firewall. You don't need to worry much about DCLA, commands, and things like that."
"The interface is very good."
"The Juniper SRX series is easy to use."
"The command line in Juniper SRX is extremely powerful, in my opinion. It's one of the best command lines I've used in networking products."
"Juniper is a highly flexible platform, and you get more bang for your buck compared to a Cisco product."
"The most valuable feature is the virtualization because it can be used for customers who are using the mobile data network to request a private connection to a remote site."
"I've found the security features, such as IDS and the VPN most valuable."
"The setup is pretty straightforward."
"Great as an inter-segmentation firewall or border or arch-firewall."
"Juniper SRX Series Firewall is a stable solution."
"Palo Alto's App-ID is what differentiates it from other competitors."
"The most valuable features are the virtualization of the firewall and the antivirus."
"I have found that Palo Alto Networks K2-Series has the best security. They are more user-friendly, older firewalls used to have to be configured using the command-line interface, but in this solution, it can be done in the GUI."
"The company is inventive and always adds a lot of great features."
"One of the most valuable features is Palo Alto's firewall management. We find it easier to manage the firewall centrally."
"The most valuable feature of Palo Alto Networks K2-Series is the performance which is above their competitors. The throughput they have delivered is good. When we used other solutions they failed the deployment when we were using different rules. They have a theory perform performance light and performance degradation. However, Palo Alto Networks K2-Series never fails in that scenario."
"As long as the solution is kept updated, it's pretty stable."
"The most valuable feature is availability."
"Its reporting capabilities can be improved. It should have some out-of-the-box reporting capabilities and some degree of customization. The basic reporting that it currently has is not sufficient to create more usable reports. It needs some sort of out-of-the-box reporting. They try to make customers purchase FortiAnalyzer for this kind of reporting, which is an additional cost. Other firewall vendors, such as SonicWall and Sophos, provide this sort of reporting without any additional cost."
"This product needs to have an analysis feature, rather than having the analysis done through the integration of a different product."
"We would like to see better pricing."
"Some of the filtering is not robust, you can escape it with a VPN. Some of the users bypass some of the filters. It catches some but it also misses some, that area could be improved. It's functioning reasonably but there's room for improvement in that area."
"The UI could be improved."
"FortiLink is the interface on the firewall that allows you to extend switch management across all of your switches in the network. The problem with it is that you can't use multiple interfaces unless you set them up in a lag. Only then you can run them. So, it forces you to use a core type of switch to propagate that management out to the rest of the switches, and then it is running the case at 200. It leaves you with 18 ports on the firewall because it is also a layer-three router that could also be used as a switch, but as soon as you do that, you can't really use them. They could do a little bit more clean up in the way the stacking interface works. Some use cases and the documentation on the FortiLink checking interface are a little outdated. I can find stuff on version 5 or more, but it is hard to find information on some of the newer firmware. The biggest thing I would like to see is some improvement in the switch management feature. I would like to be able to relegate some of the ports, which are on the firewall itself, to act as a switch to take advantage of those ports. Some of these firewalls have clarity ports on them. If I can use those, it would mean that I need to buy two less switches, which saves time. I get why they don't, but I would still like to see it because it would save a little bit of space in the server rack."
"The initial setup is complex."
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve the user interface. There should be more functionality and options through the GUI."
"The workplace management console needs improvement. It should be a little bit more developed. Also, the interface needs a bit more improvement."
"I've noticed that the management interface could use some updates and upgrades."
"Juniper SRX's UI is very bad."
"The big thing is performance. With all the features turned on it slows down."
"The GUI needs to be easier to handle."
"It could improve areas which need high performance."
"It does have its nuances in terms of deployment. There are always areas to make something easier or more intuitive or make the system auto-negotiate more with existing hardware."
"It could have features that other products support like blade options and stand-alone endpoint security."
"We had some issues with upgrading in the past. They could make the process easier."
"Its networking features could be better."
"I would like to see the threat intelligence capability integrated with other vendors such as Cisco and Forcepoint."
"The ease of management and configuration should be improved."
"When it comes to renewing the solution, they tend to try to jack up the pricing."
"The reporting functionality in GlobalProtect needs to be improved."
"In the past, we've had trouble with Palo Alto's application filtering not getting it right. I would not be recommending layer 7 application filtering yet."
"They could improve by providing more features in the solution."
